Mew Am I?
Post by Eve Rallon on Mar 1st, 2016, 8:49pm
(This roleplay is reserved for a certain delicious fool.)
Rolling waves ever so gently crashing in rhythmic fashion, the water carpet reflecting the bright rays of the sun climbing over the horizon, two Water types walked over onto the sandy beach. One being a teal and tan gator, a petite straw bag of various small supplies slung over his shoulder, a similarly small otter further along his side, white head swiveling around to get a comprehensive view of the shore in front of them, large beady black eyes swinging about. Their stroll onto the soft and grainy path by the calm tide to their right, planning to start the day with a simple yet profound morning walk.
“Uncle Bilro!” the Oshawott pipes up, abruptly standing onto the tips of his navy-shaded feet, stubby arms pointing forward and down along the coast, almost frantically as he spots something rather unusual. He would cry out “What’s that?” to his guardian, quickly looking up to Bilro to see his reaction and hear his answer. But the latter would not be presented for a while, the Croconaw also having stopped in his tracks to stare in confusion, jaw mildly ajar as he sees a splotch of pink in the distance, the color an extreme rarity in these parts.
“What in tarnation?” the adult mouths to himself, glancing to the side every so often, making sure his nephew kept close as they slowly approached... approached it. Bilro remained at a loss for words of what he was looking at for now. They near the site that caught their attention, to the unidentified Pokémon lying on the ground. “A Jellicent? No, doesn’t look it. Stay behind me, Willis.”
Putting his hands on his thighs for support as he bends down, the reptile takes a closer look. Definitely, it was unlike anything he’d ever seen before, but the creature still had features he could make out. For one, to call the thing pink is an understatement in of itself; no part of it he could spot wasn’t colored in the uniform creamy hue, as if the thing was dipped in a vat of monochrome paint one point in its life. Its overall shape resembled closest to that of a cat, but the tail was far too long; the limbs, awfully short; and the head, cartoonishly big.
“Still a bit purdy,” Bilro concludes as he just observes the specimen quietly before widening his eyes, in realization. He gets low to the ground as, a hand placed on where he guessed the heart of this critter would be, as the Croconaw saw what he suspect was chest movement from breathing.
“Varmit’s still got a pulse. Hey! Fella’s out cold… Take the bag, Willis. We’re going home.”
~~~~~~~
The person out cold would come to later, skin no longer soaked of the salty ocean water. Instead of the rough sands, he laid on a padding of yellow straw, thick enough to firmly support his weight. Dark brown primarily surrounded his immediate sight, as the room and the ceiling were constructed entirely from wood, the furniture - which consisted solely of a short square table in the opposing corner, squatting by the door - derived from the same material as well. Also squatting was the the Croconaw, pouring water into a thick copper mug from a sitting bucket, his blue back facing the waking person. This gator would glance behind him before hastily swirling one-eighty to fully meet eye-to-eye, his fanged smile greeting him before his word.
“Finally up, are you? Was wondering when you’d wake,” he starts, trodding over, mug in hand. He gets as close to the ground as he can without being on all fours, offering the drink forward. “Thirsty?”
Brown.
Lo and behold, the color he saw was brown. It was...wood, yes, that was what it was called. He was looking up at a wooden ceiling.
Using all of his feeble strength, the Mew's eyes squinted slightly as he blinked them open. He closed them for a few more seconds, and opened them again, trying to get used to the afternoon light gleaming against a nearby wall. He made to sit up, but his tiny head felt far too heavy for him to lift off the pillow it currently resided on. Shifting his position slightly, he looked around, his other senses catching up with him.
Small, everything was small in this tiny room, though nothing was quite as small as he was. Everything in the room was wooden, from the ceiling he'd first seen, to the little wooden table by the door. He could hear a smashing sound from outside, a sound he recognized. Waves crashing against the beach. Yes, he remembered the beach, from...from...
He frowned. Where did he remember the beach from? The door swung open, and a peculiar creature entered the room. It was a small, blue, crocodile with an odd red scaly fin on top of its head. He watched it as it moved cautiously towards him, and asked him if he was thirsty. He sat up slightly, still feeling a little dizzy.
“No, I think I’ve ingested plenty of water,” the Mew said shakily. He looked out towards where he could hear the sea crashing against the shores. Something about it was unfamiliar, eerily foreign, and yet, something about the sound of waves felt oddly familiar...he wasn’t entirely sure what what he remembered...or even if he did remember. He felt a sudden sense of nervousness, and felt very sick.
“On second thought, I really would not mind that water,” he said quickly, snatching it out of the Croconaw’s stubby fingers and taking a swift swig. He blinked a few more times, still feeling unwell. He gazed over at the creature staring uncertainly down at him, and smiled, weakly at him. “Thanks,” he offered.
“Where am I?” He asked, quickly. He looked around the room, trying to see something, anything, that he could identify as his, but nothing, not the scratchy straw bed, not the little table, not the Croconaw, the only thing that was even vaguely familiar to him was the sound of the waves. He made to sit up again, far more slowly this time, and managed it. He slid out of the bed, on the opposite side of the Croconaw, and walked over to the blank wooden wall, pressing his tiny ear against the wall, listening to the waves. After a few moments, he spoke again.
“Where is this place?” He asked again, turning to the Croconaw.
“Tranquil Town,” Bilro informs the Mew, having stood still where he was, only his head turning to face the Mew as the psychic cat goes to lean up against the wall. It took a bit, but the Croconaw had figured out that he was trying to listen past the wall. For what, the reptile was not quite sure, but he wasn’t really one to ask questions about these sorts of things. Bilro’s eyes glanced lower to see the copper mug he gave the Mew. Entirely empty at this point. The little fella must have been real thirsty.
“I reckon you ain’t a clue as to how you got here?” he guesses, walking over slowly, though the statement was really spoken more to himself than anyone else. The Water type calmly crouches down so that they could look at each other at more level manner. It did not take much reading of the Mew to see that he wasn’t going to get much from the fellow. Blank look and all. Varmit didn’t even seem to really recognize his species, given how the Mew’s facial expression implied that he was looking new or quaint, and Bilro definitely isn’t a quaint-looking fella.
“Lookie here. You don’t look like you ought to be moving around too much,” the non-fully evolved adult wagers, offering her a simple smile, trying to make sure he was presenting as harmless an impression he could think of. Not that he should really be concerned; varmit ain’t scared at first sight, no reason to think he’d be scared anytime soon by Bilro. “Go ahead and sit back down. There’s no rush to get anywhere. What’s yer name anyhow? Mine’s Bilro. I run this here farm. Well, you can’t see it here, but it’s right past the door out yonder.”
Sure enough, Mew suddenly felt another wave of of dizzyness, and stumbled over to the bed, swaying slightly as he went. “You’re....quite right,” he said, taking shelter back on the bed, and closing his eyes for a few moment. “Yeah, I think I’ll stay on this bed for a little while longer,” he blinked a few times, and turned back to the Croconaw. “I’m sorry, you asked me something let me just…” he closed his eyes, and struggled to remember what he’d been asked.
“Oh that’s right, you asked me where I’m from.” He paused, and shut his eyes again, focusing hard. The waves, he knew the waves, where were they from, where were they from! But, alas, no name came to him. He could not even come up with an image of what the land he’d come from looked like, much less a name for it. “No, I’m sorry, I don’t remember,” he frowned. “Maybe I’ll remember soon,” he said, slowly. It worried him that he couldn’t remember where he was from. He had the terrible feeling that he was forgetting something very important...or someone very important, which was it?
Trying to keep the growing sensation of panic at bay, he attempted to continue a conversation. “And this place is called...Tranquil Town? I can’t say I’ve heard of it, or at least...I don’t remember hearing about it. Then again, I can’t remember hearing about much of anything,” he chuckled wryly, and looked over at the unamused Crocanaw.
“Yes, well, enough about me, I haven’t got anything else to say. I don’t remember anything else, I don’t think.” He leaned back in his bed, looking out at the wall, listening to the waves. “Tell me about your farm, Bilro, what do you do? Do you manage it all by yourself, or is there someone with you?” He asked, still trying to make conversation, feeling more and more awkward with each passing sentence.
“The farm here?” he echoes back at the question, tilting his head as he slowly blinks at the response given back to him. Surely, the Mew was a rather odd character, possibly a bit loose in the head. The Croconaw notes how long he takes time to answer the ‘question’ Bilro asks. Nevertheless, the weird cat thing seemed entirely honest with his expressions and confusion. Poor fella must have been knocked silly in the head or something of that sort.
“Yeah, I reckon it’s just a nice home for me, and I just grow a bunch of Berries for the town. Not the only one around, but I do grow a bunch. I don’t work alone. I’ve got my nephew Willis, that I do. He’s a bit small and young, but he’s real hard working, mhm,” Bilro explains, nodding at his own words as he gets settled, sitting down on the floor as he looks at the lying Mew. “Oh, he’s an Oshawott, so don’t be surprised if he looks different.”
Bilro, speaking of the devil, turns his head when the a loud bang sounded off in the door, soon the handle turning as it swings open, the white otter rushing his way in. He waved his arms, frantically shouting at the first opportunity.
“Uncle Bilro! The Digletts are back!” he declares, hopping once before starting his dash back out to leave the two back in their simple silence. However, they could still hear the muffled yells of the child as he takes off. “Quick! They’re just digging up the roots!”
“Well, damn varmits on it again. Sorry, fella, but I reckon I oughta leave you here for now. Go ahead and just get your rest; I’ll be back in a jiffy,” the gator quickly lets Mew know, hauling himself back up on two to help his younger relative deal with this problem know as “Digletts”. With that, Bilro goes ahead and turns around to go follow Willis right out of the farm.
The Mew watched wordlessly as the Croconaw scampered from the room, to the aid of the Oshawott, whatever that was. He was alone to his thoughts. He had neglected to answer the Croconaw’s question, because he had no answer.
What was his name?
He sat on the bed, his hands folded, eyes shut, trying with all his might to remember something. Were the waves in his memory even from his homeland? Had he only latched onto the idea because it had been the first thing he’d heard? He sighed. He might know nothing of his identity, but there was something, something very specific that he was forgetting. Why would he forget something so ambiguously important? What even WAS he forgetting? He couldn’t remember...well obviously he couldn’t he had forgotten. But then-
He shook his head, and opened his eyes. He mind was rambling, he needed something else to focus on. A sound of water blasting dirt rang through the air, jerking the Mew out of his meditative silence. Curious, he slid slowly out the bed. He paused for a moment, making sure we felt well enough to stand. Once he was sure he was not going to collapse, he walked slowly out into the hall and out of the house. Everything in the house was, like the room itself, slightly small, but it still towered over the tiny mew. He pushed the front door open and it slid gently open. He walked out slowly, his long tail dragging on the floor.
The fields were set in great square patches of dirt with berries growing in rows. On the far end, opposite the house, a few Digletts had surfaced on the opposite end of the field. The Croconaw was halfway across the field, blasting at them with Water Gun. The Mew looked over at them, and focused on one of the Digletts. With a squeal, the Diglett disappeared under the surface of the earth. Mew looked over at the empty hole the Diglett had left behind.
He had done that. That was Psychic...yes, he could do that.
Smiling, he continued using Psychic, and, one by one, the Digletts vanished, disappearing below the surface. Concentrating on himself, he felt his feet leave the ground as he levitated himself off the ground. As he stared down at the astonished Croconaw and Oshawott, another revelation came to him.
“You asked me my name, Bilro. I can now tell you. My name...is Muy.”
Bilro and Willis had been ignorant of the happenings of the Mew heading outside to see what was going on. They were, after all, busy handling the Ground-typed pests wandering into their precious yard, the uncivilized Pokémon having seen some delicious berries lined up while they were hungry. They intended to drive off these unwanted guests with some water, but it would be beyond their wildest imagination to see them suddenly just turn and leave, making those odd sounds as if they were struck with pain from an invisible weapon.
They would stare in awe, not understanding the reason for this, for how they would retreat in such an odd manner. Bilro would be the first to check his surroundings, to find cause for this bizarre phenomenon. It then naturally follows that he would finally spot the Mew, but by that point, Muy was already off of the ground, hovering in defiance to gravity. The Croconaw cries out in surprise, surprised enough to invoke a backstep, shocked at both at how the new fella had arrived without him noticing and how he just… floated. In the air.
“He’s in the air, Uncle Bilro!” Willis would soon point out, having caught up with Muy’s entrance, partially thanks to how Bilro made quite the alarmed sound. He extends his pointing to the physical sense, grabbing Bilro’s arm with one short hand while directing the other in the direction towards the weird cat-thing suspended above on his own will.
“I,” Bilro begins, baffled before both beings, bringing himself to calm down, looking towards the solid ground with the odd shadow caused by the airborne Mew. He takes a deep breath, moving up both his arm and head, the former to take the little otter’s hand, the latter to look back at the person who startled him.
“I reckon that’s good,” the Croconaw finally states, several seconds having passed since his first attempt to respond, checking back to look over at the holes in the garden to make sure that the holes remained that way. He returned his attention back to his helper. “Muy, was it? Weird sounding name, but if it’s your name, that’s a fine one for a fella like you. Did you - err - make the Digletts go away?”
The floating Muy could not help but beam down at the gawking Oshawott and the incredulous Croconaw; he found their surprise and awe slightly amusing. As for Muy, he felt quite pleased with himself. He hadn’t noticed it before he’d taken off, but something had felt very wrong when he had been walking around the house, as if he’d been moving wrong, which of course he had been. This was how he usually got around, he realized, floating around above the world.
Muy casually floated over to the two confused Pokemon, inspecting his work. There were a number of sizable holes dug straight through the garden, and smashed berries were littered across the land, though a majority of the field was untouched, except perhaps for the odd berry hurled across the field.
“They’ll probably be back eventually,” said Muy casually. “I don’t know how much time you have, a couple of weeks maybe? Maybe less,” He smiled over at Bilro. “You know them better than I do, I’m sure,” and with that, he shot up into the air.
A moment later he was flying past the low clouds, up into the sky. He paused for a moment, looking down at the coastal farm from a half a mile above. Floating high above the world, Mew felt something he hadn’t felt since he’d awoken...true calm. There had been a nervousness that he’d been under the moment he’d woken up that flying took away from him. He closed his eyes.
This feeling he recognized. The way the wind whipped against his tiny pink face, the sound of the air as it whooshed around him, even the smell of the world all the way up here was different; the air smelt better up here. He closed his eyes, thinking hard. This sensation, the feeling of flying, he remembered very clearly, which is why he thought it was the perfect to meditate on his origins. Mew thought carefully. Where was he from. He remembered flying, he remembered this feeling, where did it come from?
Giving up on his memory for the moment, he decided to return back to the Bilro and the Oshawott. He dove through air, speeding back down through the air, back, back towards ground. He slowed sharply as he approached the ground, screeching to a halt just before he hit the ground, remaining floating at about level with Bilro’s head.
Having followed the Mew around in his sights, head swiveling this way and that to keep track, Bilro wasn’t sure what to make of all of this. The fella was innocent and helpful, but he just couldn’t help but be a bit intimidated at just how odd Muy was, alien-like the creature was. Still, with no ill-intention from this foreigner, Bilro had but one proper response to this, despite the hesitation he still harbors for now: He smiles and finally decides in his mind to accept Muy as part of the family for now.
“Haven’t got you to met my nephew, have I? Muy, this is Willis,” he goes on to introduce, figuring that this would be one way to start small chatter between the three of them. He looks down at the Oshawott, offering the child a little smile, as if to encourage the otter to go greet the fellow Mew. Willis held his gaze with Bilro for a brief moment, eventually seeing no harm in… well, seeing their guest. The Oshawott turns his head back to offer his own hellos.
“Hi, Muy!” Willis finally calls out to the Mew, hopping a tad on his feet, his head tilted up along with the corners of his mouth as he gives Muy his regards. Pleased with this sort of introduction, Bilro pats the back of the budding farmer, also looking forward right at Muy.
“I reckon you don’t really have a clue where you should be going now, right? I’ve got an extra room in the lot, the one you were resting at. Least I could do with how quickly you helped us out. Alright, Willis. Go patch up the holes and finish the rest. I’ll help Muy get comfy with the place and then I’ll come back out to make sure you’ve no trouble,” Bilro concludes, having dismissed his nephew back to work as he leads Muy back into their home, showing him around.
~~~
Six days would have passed since that incident. The Croconaw made sure to provide the newcomer all of the necessities throughout Muy’s stay, the berries grown more than enough to accommodate an extra person. They had spent the usual days doing standard work with both cultivating the crops as well as maintaining the house. Six days later, they would be walking back to the town for a third time, Bilro pushing along a small wooden cart, the container filled to the brim with berries. He walked with the two of his fellow family members, shoving his goods towards the entrance of town. There, they would enter the small civilization, small houses and patios arranged along the two small dirt roads, a number of stalls setup out at the edges, crowds slowly gathering around as the morning market.

Muy walked through the town, in line with Bilro and Willis. Over the course of a week, he and and the two Farmers had bonded. Perhaps it had been the fact that he’d been able to deal with their Diglett problem, but they’d accepted him amongst their farm. For a few days, he’d been content to help out around the farm, using Psychic, and, whenever he wanted, he flew around, as far out as he could, trying to see something recognizable. But, alas, he did not recognize the sprawling coasts, or the vast countryside that expanded beyond. After a few days on the farm, Muy quickly wanted to leave the farm. Of course, he could not just leave the farm, and Bilro only left the farm for Tranquil town when he had enough berries to sell.
The town was the promise of something new. Here, he may very well be able to find someone who knew him. His hopes weren’t high that he was actually from the town; he didn’t think he was from near here. However, he did believe that someone in this town would have some sort of lead that would help him, in time, find out who he had been, where he’d come from?
Tranquil town was a quiet, small town, on the outskirts of society. None of the Pokemon who lived in Tranquil Town thought much of it, they’d been to real, great cities. But for Muy, who remembered nothing but the farm, populated only by Bilro and Willis, it was a bustling metropolis packed to the brim with Pokemon. Very few Pokemon passed by the coastal farm.
Muy was having something of a culture shock. He had never in his memory seen this many Pokemon, though, he reminded himself, that was not much of an achievement, given how limited his memory was at the moment. The number of Pokemon, their incredible variation in shapes, sizes, and colors of them, baffled Muy. His head was on a constant swivel, his face growing more incredulous with each passing Pokemon. He gaped at the town, it’s odd buildings very different from Bilros farm, exotic in a way Muy could not adequately describe. Muy looked over at Bilro in astonishment. “This city is amazing,” he said, a little too loudly to the Croconaw.
It was still morning; a relatively small group of Pokemon that jostled through the streets, some from the surrounding farms selling their products, some from distant cities looking for novelties and raw materials. The small crowds of a few dozen pokemon glanced awkwardly at the staring Mew. Pokemon tried to avoid making eye contact with him, rushing past him, looking with fake interest at something just behind him, sneaking glimpses whenever they were sure he was not staring directly at them.

“Aye, it's just where I go when I wanna get all the things I reckon I’ll need,” Bilro replies straightforwardly, his eyes taken off the cart he was pushing to directly face Muy as he spoke some more, explaining a few things about the town they entered. “Usually I just go set up the shack and get these berries all sold off. Willis here goes get some goods for the farm. I don’t know which you’d want to do, but both are fine.”
They slowly chug along their way to an edge of the street, at a vacant spot with only one other stall by its side: A tented setup of various crates, filled with trinkets, stones, sticks, scarves, and all sorts of other things. Bilro hauls the cart alongside, exchanging his greetings with the neighboring salesman before he stops where he stands. Having halted at his destination, the Croconaw turns around and pulls off the fabric covering over the cart to reveal the bountiful stock of berries he’s cultivated over the last few weeks. He unties the small bag of gold, handing it over to the Oshawott to take, trusting the youngin’ with the currency.
Yet before the modestly sized gator could go on and hear of Muy’s decision as to what he’d do while they finish setting up shop, he would freeze momentarily, gazing off on the street as a floating specter approaches. This ghost towered over the likes of the family of three, a single black eye with a red pupil aimed right at none other than the Mew. His arms were folded together, gray hands wrapped around them gently, the entire body bobbing up and down ever so slightly, suspended in the air.
“Could I help you, sir?” Bilro asks, staring right back as he found this entrance both awkward and suspicious. The Dusknoir turns his head to see the Croconaw.
“Ah, yes, some berries. I don’t think I’ve seen any of you before,” he replies, though contrary to his response, he never actually even glanced towards the farmer's goods. The Mew remained the target of his line of sight. “The name’s Opheosis, traveler around these parts.”

“I don’t know…” said Muy, following Bilro through the town. He was having a difficult job attempting to make sure he was indeed following the Croconaw while also looking around the town, absorbing as much of Tranquil Town as he could. As they walked through the market, he gazed in awe at the stalls, filled with all kinds of items from the local farms apples, seeds of all sizes.
“I’ll probably just walk around the town. Nothing’s really been familiar so far, I do want to look for something that might,” he paused, squinting down the road, looking away from the Croconaw. “Jog my memory,” he said, already distracted with the surrounding town. It was all such a novel experience, he was still a little overwhelmed by the town.
The street, the houses, the market, the masses of Pokemon, everything about the town he found extraordinary. He stared down at the cobble-stoned streets, awed at very idea that someone would have taken the time to fit little chunks of stones across the the street to form paths. “What do you think Bilro?” He asked. He waited a moment, still looking down at the streets, before turning over to see why Bilro had not responded.
It was then that he saw the huge, menacing Dusknoir chatting with Bilro. Muy stared at him for a moment. Opheosis looked extraordinarily out of place in the town. First, there was his sheer size. Everything in the town had been made for the mostly smaller Pokemon. He towered over most of the Pokemon squeezing past him, for he took up most of the narrow street Bilro’s stand was set up on. Then there was his whole aura of menace. The massive Pokemon, several times the size of Muy, had no clear face, but instead a single glowing, red eye directly staring at Bilro, who continued to talk to the Dusknoir, evidently unfazed by giant, steely creature staring down menacingly at him.
Then Opheosis mentioned that he was a traveller, and Muy’s curiosity in the Pokemon increased tenfold. A traveller... could he possibly know something about Muy himself? Certainly, he must have had a wider understanding of the world than Bilro or Willis. “You’re a traveler?!” He asked, much louder than he had intended.

The Dusknoir offers a slow nod before unfolding his arms, opening up as he lowers them down to his side. Bilro and Willis, in the meantime, also looked over at Muy. They looked, surprised that he was that astonished about travelers being around in a simple town and whatnot. Of course, in hindsight, it’s clear that Muy would want to know more about the world, and even Bilro could only tell the Mew only about a few things about their surroundings. Still, not realizing that people from outside the town visit the town? It just felt like it was something obvious.
“I’m definitely a traveler. Been around many parts, after all. Hm, why do you ask?” Opheosis asks back, now thinking about this a bit more and realizing that the reaction was exaggerated enough to be suspicious. However, noticing that even the other two had not a clue, the response Muy gave legitimately made no sense.

“It’s just…” Muy paused, unsure as to how to broach the topic. ‘Hi I’m Muy and I have amnesia, do you know where am I from?’ seemed like a bad way to start the conversation. He tried to figure out some way to casually mention his amnesia. What would that sound like? How was it even possible to mention that he had amnesia casually. Perhaps it would be better for him to get the Dusknoir to list out the places he’d been, and see if any of the towns he said rang any bells in Muy’s jumbled mind.
It was at this point that Muy realized that he’d spent at least a full minute staring at Opheosis without saying so much as a word to him. He smiled awkwardly up at the massive Pokemon. “Um...I ask because, uh, I wanted to know if,” he trailed off again.
“Well, I was uh...interesting in the place you’d been is all,” he said, somewhat lamely. “I’m uh...from a place that I uh...can’t really remember.” He said, awkwardly.

“Can’t remember?” Opheosis would ask back, regardless of whether or not Muy had wished to further attempt clarifying his situation. As much sense as this fact concerning with the sheer oddity of the Mew’s behavior, amnesia for a species of this sort… To call it a rarity would be an understatement.
“Fella’s lost his memory,” Bilro confirms for the large stranger, this statement causing the Dusknoir pull up one of his arms scratching away at his chin. The ghost was left deep in thought, as he had no precedent for such events, nor could he merely conjure as to why or how this could be. Opheosis was not the most well-traveled man when it came to these parts, but surely he would have heard of something that lead to a very confused Mew in the middle of a small rural town like this one. An isolated incident perhaps from the folly of the Psychic type alone, or was there something more sinister at play here?
“I see. I’m not usually around this part of the coast, but I have went quite a long ways,” he starts, his train of thought coming to a small realization. It was first a fleeting fancy, but the more the man considers it, the more he realizes there was something that could be done. Nothing about figuring out this Mew’s past, no, that would be more trouble than it’s worth. But this Mew could be useful nevertheless, so long as he plays his cards right.
