“How touching!” Amalyria fires back, her other arm swingin’ round to sandwich Muy’s paw as she shook, the Ampharos all the while looking at Opheosis. As stoic a look the Dusknoir usually possessed, even he didn’t manage to hide his disgruntled mood with this insufferable housekeeper. “You hear that, Opheosis? He’s delighted to spend time in town. What a lovely companion you found to go heartlessly go put down into this haven without so much staying with him.”
“For the last time, I am not going to live here, Amalyria,” the ghost snarls.
“Oh, Offie-”
“Opheosis.”
“You said that the previous time you swung by, word for word. But here you are repeating yourself,” she would start, letting go of Muy’s hands, the Electric type now focusing back on her travelling guest. Her arms spread wide open, the cheerful looks she had now entirely replaced by a devious smirk. “What sort of problem do you even have with this place? We’re a really friendly group, and certainly nothing pompous. In fact, many other great fighters besides Freija also spent nights here every so often too. You should know how busy we can get with all the fights we’ve done.”
“I’m home,” a Flareon would announce, walking in with her bushy tail waving behind her. The same Flareon who was rest high above the borders of town when Muy and Opheosis had shown up. She stops halfway into the door, looking around the room first before continuing her entry, eyes wide with wonder as she stares about with each step. “Wow, it’s mopping day? I didn’t realize the week passed by that quickly. Hey, Opheosis, you done paying up? Get out before Amalyria gets demotivated from having to stop for too long.”
“Tch,” the Dusknoir would only answer, bashing a stash of coins onto the only table in the room, some of it falling to the floor and even one slipping into one of the cracks of the furniture. He floated off and away without so much another word to Muy, blowing past the Fire type with haste. Satisfied, the canine’s tail curls up as she starts to hum to herself and walk past the remaining two Pokemon, towards the hallway. It wasn’t until she reaches there that she stops, her smile vanishing as she turns around to look at the room again, something not quite right about it. Indeed, her eyes would lock onto the very sight of the Mew, her surprise causing her to utter none other than the most appropriate word for the occasion.
“Huh?”

Muy’s tiny paw was easily squished between the Ampharos’ massive arms. He smiled awkwardly at her as she quipped over at the Dusknoir behind him, evidently not really paying much attention to Muy who attempted to wriggle his hand out from between the Ampharos. He turned his head with a surprised jerk when he heard Opheosis’ reply.
“Wait, you’re not staying here?!” He had been resolute and firm a moment earlier, he had been able to bear the state of apparent disrepair the entire establishment suffered from, but his entire resolution broke when he realized that Opheosis would be leaving him alone with...he turned his head to look at the massive, overly affectionate Ampharos, and swallowed nervously. The thought of spending time in this place now scared him slightly more than the fights in the arenas.
Amalyria abruptly released him, and he floated off behind her, stretching his squashed hand as he did, satisfied that his paw still worked. Behind Amalyria, he watched the two debate. Muy opened his mouth to ask Opheosis to reconsider staying with him in the inn with the Ampharos, but stopped quickly at the sight of the Flareon entrance. He quickly recognized her, though there were not many faces in his memory he could have mixed hers up with. It was the Flareon he’d seen on the gates of the city.
He watched her with quiet admiration as she easily silenced Opheosis. Opheosis had a certain menace to him that Amalyria had been oblivious too, but the Flareon seemed to match Opheosis’ power. While his came from a kind of ominous mystery to his whole presence, hers came from the sheer strength that seemed to emanate from her as she walked over the freshly mopped floors. She turned to face him, confused, and Muy tried to make a good impression. He lowered himself down to eye level with her, and floated closer to her, stopping about a meter away from her, before extending the tiny paw again, hoping she didn’t have the same awkward handshake as her landlady. “Hi,” he said, pausing before offering her some introductory information. “I’m Muy. I...” he paused, trying to think of some more information he could offer her. “That’s actually about it,” he said, with an awkward smile.

“Oooh, how mysterious,” the Flareon muses, look at the paw oddly held out in front of her. She stares for a second or two before curling up her paw into a small fist and gently bumping into Muy’s. Somewhere in the back, Muy could pick up a stifled giggle form Amalyria along with the clank of wood, the Ampharos having started to mop the “lobby” of their simple, simple home. “It’s been a while since we’ve a new person who stayed over at least the night. We’re pretty homely and cheap here, so travelers like to come by.”
Freija pulls back the paw she used, bringing it to her cheek as she thinks the current situation for a bit in a few more moments of silence, oblivious to how awkward this could have been for Muy, given that she stared at the Mew the entire time. Luckily, her wits didn’t fail her, her pondering gaze turns into a lax and amicable smile in light of the realization of what she forgot to do in the first place.
“I’m Freija,” she self-introduces to her new acquaintance, standing a tad taller with friendly confidence at the meeting of a new person. “One of the so-called ‘monsters’ of Pocket Inn, but you can just call me Freija. I revel in enjoyable combat with others who have the gall to give me a good time. Other hobbies include exploring, inventing, and treating newcomers out to free drinks.”

Muy smiled. The first time he’d seen Freija, perched atop the gates of Aanakiak, she’d seemed to be an aloof sort of Pokemon. However, after this second meeting, and after she’d actually introduced herself to him, he found he liked her. Perhaps that was because she was the only one in the room who hadn’t flirted with him or was a giant metal ghost, or that she did not tower over him like the Ampharos and the Dusknoir did. Something about her made Muy find her a bit more trustworthy than those two. Her introduction had been a bit forceful in Muy’s opinion, but, then again, this was a town of fighters. It only made sense that it’s inhabitants were a hardy batch of individuals. He floated down to ground level, and fist bumped, his tiny pink fist against the similarly sized but far bright orange paw of the Flareon.
“Well,” he stuttered, trying to explain himself a bit better. “I can’t really remember much else, I washed up by Tranquil Town not long ago, and Opheosis brought me here.” He started, and quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, I know that revealing information in an excessive degree is against the rules,” he paused, hoping for a sign of levity from the Flareon. He’d hoped to make his remark sound more like a joke than an actual apology, but was not entirely sure how the Flareon would react to his first attempt at humor.
He pressed on. “It’s good to meet you Freija.” he paused awkwardly, trying to figure out a way to ease into the question he was dying to ask a veteran fighter like her, where was the other Mew? “Have you...been fighting in the arenas for a very long time, Freija,” he asked, conversationally.

“Well, not the arenas for that long, but I’ve been fighting for quite a long time in my life,” the Flareon starts, settling down as she sits comfortable down on all fours, the friendly face she gave Muy persisting through her whole answer. It would seem that the joke Muy offered either went over her head, or she chose to ignore his attempt at humor entirely. “Started when I was young, and it’s just been something I’ve enjoyed doing all of this time. That sort of feeling… meeting new people, getting really close and giving it your all to see what sort of brutal work of you could make with your foes…”
Freija breaks into a sheepish grin, her foot drawn up as she scratches behind her ear in the realization that she started to digress at that point.
“What I’m getting at is that I only recently showed up. Just a few years into the great land, Anaakiak. I quickly settled here in Pocket Inn and got to watch many fights up close in the spectacular arenas on display here. It wasn’t long before I asked fellow members of Pocket Inn to be a part of these marvelous practices we have established here. Sorry, that’s probably a bit too much for what you were asking for.”

Muy nodded. His momentary embarrassment at having his joke fly over Freija’s brightly colored, fluffy hair, quickly gave way to curiosity about Freija’s life. He lowered himself gently onto the chair nearest to Freija, his large eyes focused in on the orange Pokemon, listening attentively.
Freija, it was clear, was a seasoned veteran of combat, if still a newcomer to the city of Anaakiak. She seemed like a straightforward, honest individual, trustworthy in her own kind of way. Despite that appearance, she paradoxically seemed to be a vicious fighter, though he wondered how capable so fluffy a creature could really be at fighting. He watched her eyes, wide in a smile but still calculating, as if trying to figure how she would fight him. However, he did not feel that she was uninvested in the tale she was telling him.
He nodded, his face split into an attentive frown. “No, no, that’s fine. I’ll take all the information about this place I can get,” he said, nodding a few times. He leaned back in the chair, which might have fit the Ampharos easily, but was much to big for the tiny Mew. He moved a little further back in the chair, trying to get comfortable while also maintaining eye contact with the Flareon across from him. He shortly gave up, levitating up and landing softly on the table. “So, how exactly does the fighting work,” he asked, genuinely interested in Freija’s profession. “Do you fight on a team, or can you fight by yourself?”

“Fight in a team? No, we don’t really have anything like that. I think there was a time that had something of the sort, but they could not agree as to how to honorably fight, or that they couldn’t all come together at the same time to engage in the fight, or something like that,” Freija muses, scratching a bit longer before continuing her answer. “In any case, it’s not exactly forbidden to have team fights, and there are even some cases where there’s three-people fights, but almost every fight here is between exactly two people.”
The Flareon yawns, putting her paws on the table to give a simple stretch, both eyes shutting before slipping one of them back open, catching the sight of Muy again. How to put it? The guy came off as a bit… mellow. Apathetic, maybe? He seems interested enough to talk to her, yet she couldn’t shake off the feeling that the Mew just felt distant. That wouldn’t do.
“Say? You just got in town, right? How about I show you around? Get you a drink or two?”

Muy was silent for a few moments, pondering Freija’s response. For a city with such a intricate and perplexing system of rules, it seemed odd that the city’s inhabitants couldn’t agree on an honorable group fight. He shifted his position a little on the table, resting a small hand on the table’s surface and leaning against it, his head cocked curiously to one side, still facing the Flareon. Of course, it hadn’t quite been what he’d meant, he’d been wondering how one joined the fighting itself, whether there were groups of fighters who’d pit their people at arenas whenever they could, or if anyone sign up to fight. He decided against clarifying his question.
He realized Freija had asked him a question, and smiled at her. Perhaps he was still a bit rattled from his time on the ocean, whatever had happened there, or perhaps he always knew nothing about how to carry a proper conversation with a genuinely interesting and outgoing person. “Sorry, I...yeah, I’d love to have a drink with you, and to get a tour of the city from so talented a fighter,” he offered, trying to speak with the same level of bravado his companion had, and not quite matching it.

“Talented?” Freija echos, shaking her head as her smile returns into a bright grin, her eyes falling quietly upon the face of curious Muy. “Nay, I’m not particularly ‘talented’ in any sense of the word. I’ve worked hard, yes, I’ve practiced and I win, but I’m not ‘talented’. Had I been, I would not have been here. Had I the talent, I would probably take up a different role, perhaps a warrior for a country or a vigilante for the masses.
“Oh, there I go again. My apologies,” the Flareon giggles, putting her paws onto the table as she breaks eye contact, head turning to look into the lobby, noticing the Amparos still cleaning the floor. “Ama, we’re going out for a walk.” To that, Amalyria glances over, waving with a nod, her approval accompanied with no words.

Muy nodded, a little confused about the distinction Freija made, but found he was becoming increasingly accustomed to a little confusion in his conversations. “Oh, no, don’t worry,” he said, a little too quietly to be considered consoling. “I...enjoy listening to you,” he offered, trying to say something substantial while nothing of any real substance came to the Mew’s mind. Freija, it seemed to Muy, had an overpoweringly jovial personality. Muy couldn’t help but be happy in her presence. He levitated his tiny pink body off the table, and looked over at Amalyria. “Thanks for accomodating me, Amalyria...It was good to meet you!” he called out, as he looked expectantly and curiously over at the Flareon. “Where are we going?” he asked.

The Flareon stares out towards the sky, lost in thought, almost as if she had to contemplate something for a year or so. However, this meditative moment breaks soon enough, Freija sheepishly looking at Muy before offering an apologetic smile.
“Tavern for a drink, of course,” she explains. “Best way to have a good chat, if you ask me. I mean, a talk while a walk is nice and all, but there’s just something nice about having settled down and enjoying a bit of goodness. It’s like you have all the time in the word to just discuss these things- no, you might as well have all the time in the world.”
Quite soon at the end of that sentence, muffled cheers could be heard in the distance once more, the Fire-type glancing across her shoulder.
“Lively today, mmm….?”

“Oh, of course!” said Muy, still trying to reflect the Flareon’s own enthusiasm. He had to admit, she was much, much better company than Opheosis with his stony silences. Freija seemed to always be brimming with energy, a lively conversationalist, and Muy found himself enjoying her presence. The little levitating Mew shook slightly in surprise at the explosion of sound from another part of the city, and turned to squint off in the direction of the sound. At Freija’s comment, he turned, smiling.
“It’s…” he paused, thinking about what he thought about the city. He had to to feel any memory stir from this place, but he found that he enjoyed it regardless. It was certainly busier than Bilro’s mellow farm, and, despite the imposing stadiums just outside, it seemed somehow a happier place than Tranquil Town, though it was far from as clean as that town. The cobble-stoned road snaked along the slopes of the city haphazardly, a dozen dark alleyways branching off from the street. It was so alien, so uniquie so...alive.. “It’s wonderful,” Mew said softly, floating to be eye level with the Flareon. He gestured to where the cheer had come from. “Is that where we’ll be going?”

"Hm?" comes the immediate response from the Flareon, check back down the rocky road for them. To Freija, the robust noise from the unseen audiences were no different from birds chirping in the morning. Louder, undeniably, but with years upon years of it being the norm, it's not like looking towards the arena during cheering for the umpteenth thousand time was going to change anything. "Well, I guess you really want to go over and see the action already, huh? But I assure you, there's more than enough time for us to catch a fight before today ends."
"Besides," she goes on, walking down the main path. "I think the best places to take a new person would be to the places that they don't really pay attention to a lot. For crying out loud, the tavern even has a 'Welcome' sign on it, and yet so few people even go in there. Even those who do tend to ask fights from everyone trying to enjoy their drink on a nice day. It's really annoying, you know? There's a building right besides for fight requests and matchmaking, but if that happens to not be responsive, they just go over and keep me from relaxing. Honestly, are the people of the council even thinking about doing something about it? I bet they mutter under their breath whenever the tavern gets noisy with those boors, and yet they don't just drag them out."
"Oops, I shouldn't have complained about the very place I'm bringing you to. I assure you that it's still worth the trip," the Flareon concludes, sheepishly looking back at Muy, apparently never tired of maintaining a grin after much of her dialogue. "You'll find out how it's all like soon enough."

Muy, realizing that the sounds of revelry had not come from the tavern that was their intended destination, nodded, turning from the street leading to the huge Colosseums towards the smaller streets Freija was leading him down. Still a newcomer to the city, he had yet to accustom with the spurts of sporadic cheering that the city’s residents had grown accustomed to. It was extremely different from the Calm of Bilro’s farm, or even the muted bustle of Tranquil Town. The part of town Freija led him into was, while nowhere near as peaceful as those quiet spots, quieter than the Colosseums on the city’s outskirts. While people from far and wide came to watch the fights, Muy supposed, these parts of town were quieter, a more tightly knit community.
Noting an opening to learn more about the town, he decided to continue peppering her with questions as they walked and floated to the tavern. “So, what is this council? I read about them a bit in the rule book Opheosis showed me, when we were coming into the city, but it didn’t really say much about them.” Muy stared upwards, where the giant building on the top of the hill stood, silhouetted against the setting sun. “I assume they wrote the rulebook.” He added, trying to initiate a conversation about them while also showing that he did know at least one bit of information about the Council already.

"Ah yes," Freija vaguely confirms with a nod. "The council wrote those rules alright. At least, I think they do; we all read it once and probably forgot some of it. But that's not a big deal when they show up in town every now and then. If they caught someone breaking a rule, usually they just give a warning about these things. If it's pretty bad or they keep doing it, then they just banish the folks from town.
I think there's about... seven of them? Maybe eight, I'm not sure. I think a few got busy somehow and I know one left the town, but we keep that one in the council since that one's also the founder of the place. They do show up to fight in the arena sometimes, but they tend to just fight each other, really. I have fights against a few of them too, since they were a bit interested in how I do combat.
Oh yeah, and they don't live in the city. Well, not so much as in within the city, but they're pretty much on the outskirts, you know? Like, it's a hill no one else really goes to with a large house. You can see it when you're at the tavern. Though that's all you could really; for some reason, no one besides those of the council can actually get close to the house. If you try really hard, you could probably hear who spoke last, but there's no way you can know for sure what they said."
