Dr Leo Kammer had arrived in India again sometime last year. It was a fascinating place, full of rich biodiversity for him to study. It also helped that unlike some of his peers, he could speak a few Indian languages, primarily Hindi, Tamil and Marathi. Ever since he'd been collecting various plants and animals to take back with him to Austria, as well as writing various observations in his notebooks. He was looking for undiscovered species, particularly animals - and recently the natives in the area he was travelling - the southern part of the Central Provinces - had been telling him about a strange creature stalking in the jungles, a creature somewhere between a wolf and a man. He wasn't sure how much of it could be ascribed to their imagination, but his curiosity was peaked. He had set off into the part of the jungle the reports seemed to indicate this creature would be, where also the locals feared to go, so he was unlikely to see human-like tracks other than that of the creature. He began searching, finding paths that animals had beaten through the swarming plants, and following human feetlike prints that he found. Eventually he found ones which had been covered fallen leaves. They had fallen recently, so he knew he was close. After figuring out a model of what he believed the creature's patrol route was, he set up camp in his small tent, which he placed in between a hillside and large tree so that he could easily disguise it with dirt, twigs and leaves. And here he had been for a few days now, silently watching the jungle around through his binoculars. Day Four: No sign of the creature yet. I have food for another month or so, and I'm expecting it to pass by soon. If I begin running out of time, I'll check my tracking and try to attract the creature's attention by imitating a wolf houl. I am filled with excitement - I wasn't sure if this creature was a legend or not at first, but the tracks and behaviour of the creature judging by it's movements seem to confirm it - I have also found strands of fur on nearby plants, which all points toward a wolf-like humanoid. I can barely contain my excitement, I must bring back this specimen alive to my laboratory in Vienna.

The wolf creature he was searching for was watching him from behind high in the trees, she didn't have any trouble, he had a very strong scent and knew that her normal route had become dangerous and avoided it, which was annoying for her, she had to drag her kills the long way around, but no matter. The wolf girl watched curious about this human, obviously he was looking for something, she could disguise herself and asked but it would seem suspicious and the last thing she wanted was to be caught.

As it got darker, Leo found it harder to see through his binoculars, and so he packed it away in a side bag, and crawled into the tiny tent he had. He didn't dare give himself away with an open flame, so he'd have to go without cooked food for a while, but that was alright - he had some salted pork packed, along with some bread and some peas. That was his largest bag by far, and it took up all the other available room in the tent, leaving only just enough space for him to lie down in it. He had lay on his stomach half lying in the tent for most of the day, but now was lying on his back, head just poking out of the tent, looking up at the sky. As he lay he pondered - a wolf-man - could it be a forgotten strand of human evolution, as Mr Darwin had set out in his recent book? Might it be intelligent, like man? If so, he'd have a great deal more difficulty tracking it than if he had been tracking a common wolf. Animals he knew how to deal with, but he was no manhunter. He sighed, lying back on his helmet, which he didn't dare take off, as uncomfortable as it was, as it helped camouflage him, and if this creature found him in the night and wanted to take a bite out of his head, he'd need it to protect his head. He at last fell asleep, being very quiet as he did so, not snoring or exhaling too much. He'd learned the habit after years of tracking animals. As he slept, he dreamt of the various possibilities a man-wolf hybrid could represent.

Kana watched carefully from the tree's her eyes being able to see well in the dark, she waited for an hour and quietly hopped down from the tree, going on all fours she carefully snuck into the camp, sniffing around and checking the camp to see if he was a hunter and if so maybe make it harder for him, but she wasn't mean and placed some apples down near his tent, as she carefully looked around keeping on all fours.

The bags were tucked in the front part of the tent next to Leo's shoulders. A large backpack lay to his right, without any pockets and just a string tightening it at the top. To his left was a satchel, smaller than the backpack but about medium size otherwise. It had a large pocket on one side of the main compartment which bulged with the appearance of a hard object, and two smaller pockets on the other side, which were also bulging slightly but with something less solid. His binoculars, which Kana had already seen but perhaps was confused as to what they were, was lying in it's case next to Leo's head.

Kana didn't want to risk fiddling with the backpack's so close to this man, though she really wished she could look at his stuff, she decided to leave his camp for tonight and return in the afternoon after her hunt.

In the morning, Leo awoke, the rays of the sun playing across his face. He crawled out of his tent and looked around, and saw an assortment of apples on the ground. He looked up at the trees. They probably had fallen off... He picked them up and looked at them, and the ground underneath. There was no sign of impact. These must have been placed here, and the lack of bite marks would suggest... That they had been carried. It might have been a monkey, but Leo's initial conclusion was that it may have been the creature he'd been tracking. If so, it almost certainly knew that he was here. The placement of the apples nearby suggested some kind of intelligent behaviour if it was the creature. Refusing the offering of food would most likely be seen as an insult, he considered, and put the apples in his backpack with the rest of his food, keeping one in his hand which he began to munch. This was getting very interesting, and he reminded himself that if the creature was intelligent, he may well find himself being outsmarted. Grabbing his binoculars, he set off, this new turn of events convincing him that another day of observation from the tent would be useless. He'd work off the assumption that it knew where he was and had offered the food to him. Setting himself up on a hill a distance away, from which he could see the tent from his binoculars. Then, he let out his best impression of a wolf-houl. It didn't always work, but he was pretty sure he'd managed to get the attention of wolves before with it. He had prepared himself for two outcomes. If the creature was interested by the howl and headed towards him, he should be able to sight it. And if it determined his location from the howl and decided as a result that it was safe to investigate his camp again, he'd sight it. Unless, he reminded himself soberly, it outsmarted him.

Kana was just heading out for her morning hunt, stopping when she heard the howl she rolled her eyes, that man had a death wish still she couldn't help but giggle and gave out a loud howl of her own, which sounded quite unique, before she continued on her way to hunt down breakfast FAR from the man's camp.

(Last post for today, I'm off to bed)
'Drat.' Leo thought as he heard the creature's howl neither near him or the camp. He could set off in the direction of where he had heard the howl, but judging by how it had just outsmarted him, it'd probably hear him coming from a mile away. The howl sounded odd, it clearly wasn't a wolf howl, but of course that was to be expected. However, it retained just enough character of a wolf to make it seem familiar to him too. It sounded a little bit like a female, but being a new creature entirely he couldn't tell for sure. He'd assume it was a she for now, though. He racked his brains for something he could do to see the creature. If he could see her, that would confirm her existence and he could hire a team to help him capture her. Ideally, he would be able to do this from afar, as provoking the creature could mean death for him. However, she had made it abundantly clear that she could kill him if she wanted to, even if it wasn't her intention to make that clear to him. He thought back to the native's stories. It seemed she didn't like people encroaching on her land... Could she have disliked them hunting in her territory? If so, perhaps the natives might have used guns to hunt - maybe she'd recognise the sound and try to attack him? If he was right, she might kill him. Leo decided to relegate this to being a last resort, and instead started wandering around, trying to put himself in the mind of a humanoid, possibly female wolf hybrid as he stared intensely at all his surroundings for any signs of her.

(KK I'm off to bed too)
It took two hours for Kana to finally get her kill and started carrying it home a nice big boar, after arriving home she dumped it in her meat basement where she hoards all her food, she then quickly washed herself and her clothes before heading back toward the man's camp, jumping up into the tree's she saw him STILL watching, now it was getting boring, she did notice he accepted her food. She wished she could speak to him somehow...But even IF she was to disguise herself it was too risky as humans weren't meant to be in this deep.

Leo decided to stop watching the camp and go off elsewhere. The creature was unlikely to be stupid enough to let him see her now that she knew where he was. She probably had a running water source nearby, he’d look for that – he might find more hairs from her fur if he did. The ones he’d found before, judging by their length and texture, were tail hairs. He wondered how much of her was covered in fur, and that led him on to wondering what she looked. So he got out his spare notebook and pencil he kept in his pocket, and started sketching what he imagined the creature might look like based on what he knew so far, following the sound of a nearby stream as he walked. He drew a crouched humanoid form with a wolf’s tail, teeth, ears and eyes – it definitely had the wolf’s powerful senses, seeing how it had outsmarted him – and drew the humanoid shape covered in fur, which made it look rather monkeylike. When he finished sketching and looked at his work, he found he’d drawn something that looked rather like a goblin. Shivering, he pocketed the notebook, hoping the creature didn’t look like that. Looking around, he saw a stream in the distance. Excitedly, he headed towards it.

Kana started to follow Leo carefully, jumping from branch to branch as they neared a water source she knew, now she was really curious what he was doing seeing he had a notebook and pencil made her excited, she could write in it asking him...But how to get it?

As Leo knelt down and started carefully observing the riverbank (he just knew he should have brought a magnifying glass, but it was too late now), he let his mind wander. Some of the locals had claimed the creature could speak. He had doubted those claims quite strongly, but the creature did seem remarkably intelligent. Perhaps it could. The locals tended to speak Baigani, but also generally knew Hindi so more likely than not if she could speak, she would speak Hindi. As he searched, his notebook slipped out of his pocket along with his pencil, which was tucked into the strap that held the notebook shut. He didn't notice it fall, too deep in thought as he continued looking for any traces of fur, footprints or handprints. So he continued along the riverbank, leaving the notebook behind unwittingly.

Kana noticed this being careful she jumped down grabbed the book and pencil before jumping back up high into the tree's, she climbed higher into the leaves then sat on a branch, she opened the book curious of what he was doing.

In the front of the notebook, the back of the leather cover, there was a little slot into which Leo had inserted a photograph of his mother. She was a grand-looking, stern-faced woman, sitting stiffly in a large armchair wearing a large frilly dress and bonnet. On the first page he'd pasted a map of India, and then most of the rest of the notebook was scribblings in German. The sketch he had made was the only one in the notebook.
Meanwhile, down below, Leo had found a single hair. Feeling it, and looking at the length, it seemed to be - human hair. He stared in fascination at it. Unless another human had been around here, this must mean that the creature had human-like hair. That decreased the possibility of it having fur like in his sketch. He might as well make a new sketch. He absent-mindedly fumbled for his notebook... And fumbled some more. A frown came onto his face as he peered down into his pocket. "Drat, I've dropped it." He said to himself in German, noticing that the pocket was unbuttoned. He started scanning the ground around him again, looking for his notebook.
