Kana, looking down, would see that Leo was a scrawny-looking tall man, he wasn’t weak by any means but his strength didn’t show itself in his appearance. He had blue eyes and his hair was hidden under his hat, but she could see his hair colour by his light brown scraggly moustache. He also had a few days stubble spotted across his angular, sharp-looking chin from not shaving since he came into the jungle.
‘Beautiful’. Leo thought to himself, but he wasn’t looking at any of the creature’s human elements, he was staring with startling intensity at her tail and ears. Their colouration and appearance bore a strong resemblance to the Indian Grey Wolf. How wondrous this creature was, to have evolved like this! He started thinking about tailbones and ear canals and how they might work in the creature, when she jumped away. He pulled himself back to reality, listening carefully to what the creature was saying. In case she was scared of him taking her picture, he put his satchel on the ground, having already put his revolver back in it’s pocket. “Well, I found you. You said in my notebook that I could take your picture if I found you… We don’t have to do that if you don’t want to, of course.” He added hurriedly. Unfortunately, now having seen that she appeared to be related to Indian Grey Wolves, he had all too much idea what she meant by ‘all you humans care about is yourselves’… Two years ago almost 3000 wolves of that species were killed in response to the species killing more than 700 people. And now a further 600 or so people had been killed, he expected more crackdowns on that population would follow. “I’d be much more interested in talking to you – you being the first creature known to man that speaks, other than man himself.” He explained. It would be hard to prove her existence without a picture, but his curiosity was rather more important to him than that. He entirely ignored her threat of calling the wolves, not because he was unafraid of the wolves, but because he was wholly preoccupied with the creature. “I, uh… I don’t suppose you have a name?” He asked, trying to start a conversation that would hopefully lure the creature down.

Kana growled "NO, you have to take the picture yourself, I'm not going to let you take it like that" she said before realising she was conversing with a human, an actual person talking to her. It reminded her of the last time she had conversed with a human...She shook her head out of the bad memory, before hearing him talk so more calling her a 'creature', well that was a new word. "You sure that's what you want to call me?" She asked before hearing him ask her if she had a name, she paused unsure what to say "Kana...My name is Kana...And I'm not a creature, I'm not an animal, I'm just..." She said pausing once more realising she was saying too much "I just want to be alone, your not getting my picture...So go home to your mate, I'm sure she misses you" she said thinking the woman in the picture may be his partner.

Leo shook his head. "I told you, I'm fine without getting the picture if you really don't want me to. I don't have a mate either." Leo was unsure what to do. He wanted to respect Kana's wishes, but he was desperate for information. "I'm sorry for calling you a creature, but I too am a creature. All living things in the Animal Kingdom are creatures, including humans. I know that you don't have a very high opinion of my species, but..." He wasn't sure what to say, so he changed subject. "Don't you have any questions about the world outside this jungle? I can tell you pretty much anything you want to know, as a man of science." He puffed himself up a little bit as he described himself as a man of science.

Kana blinked confused she looked toward the area where she knew he was, she lowered down slightly but still stayed in the leaves the only thing he could see was her legs hanging off the branch as well as her tail, her feet were bare, and looked more human than wolf though obviously she had tougher skin than most humans if she could walk and run for long periods. "Who is the woman in that picture then? If not your mate" she asked curious, she couldn't think of any other reason.

"Oh! In the notebook!" He laughed, getting it out and looking at the photograph in the front. "No, that's my mother, god bless her soul. If you looked in the back..." He flipped to the back of the book. "You'd see I have a picture of good old Kaiser Franz, who is... Well, my pack leader, I suppose. More like a pack leader of pack leaders." He added, recalling that Indian Grey Wolves only had quite small packs, somewhere between 5 and 10 members typically. Perhaps if she was curious about human society he'd try and explain it to her in terms of packs. Another question popped into his head, but he wasn't sure if he should ask her for fear of causing offence. He decided to ask anyway. "If you don't want a photograph... Would it be alright if I sketched you?" He didn't have a lot of optimism here.

Kana's ears twitched at hearing the word 'mother', she never knew what having a mother was like...Or any family, hearing him explain more about his people made her smile, it was nice to talk to someone and heard him ask if he can sketch her, this could be a trap to take a quick picture "only if you put the camera far away from you, the gun too for that matter" she replied.

He winced when she mentioned the gun. "I do apologise for bringing that nasty weapon. It's only for self defence, you understand." He explained. He thought about how to keep the satchel away from him whilst getting it back to the camp. "Well, you can hold the satchel if it makes you feel safer. I won't touch it, I promise. If you want, we could both walk back to my camp and eat a bit. My map's there too, I can show you where we are on it, and where I come from." He continued, stepping back away from his satchel, putting a good 4 meters between him and the satchel.
"I can empty my pockets too if that helps." He suggested, extremely excited about the prospect of sketching her and talking to her. He was almost shaking with joy.

Kana watched him place the satchel and chuckled "oh trust me I understand, the jungle is a nasty place" she said as soon as he was a good distance she jumped down, picking up the satchel and looking through it finding the camera. She had seen these before, but didn't understand them, she placed it back in the satchel. Finally Leo had a full view, if she didn't have the ears and tail she would be considered a very beautiful, stunning woman, her clothes were a dark grey possibly to blend in the darkness, she wore a tank top and shorts, leaving a lot of bare skin, her hair was quite long reaching her neck and despite no shampoo, her hair looked stunning if a little messy. The most amazing thing was her eyes and how they shined a brilliant red, also he would be able to notice that she had no human ears, which made sense since she had wolf ears, her hands also looked unique, while human shaped her nails almost looked like claws, probably for ripping her kills.
She stared at Leo, unsure for a moment and feeling a little nervous about trusting a human, "let's walk then" she said wanting to distract herself as she began walking her ears pointed up and her tail swishing as she walked.

Leo blushed when he noticed, as if for the first time, the human side of Kana. The flush left his cheeks quickly though as his attention returned to her ears, which he watched move around in fascination. He had a lot of questions, but he didn't want to overwhelm her, so decided to talk about a different subject first.
"Well, I mentioned Kaiser Franz. Uh, human society, I suppose could be seen rather like packs. We have packs about the same size as yours which are called families, in which there is a father, mother and their children. The father typically goes off to work in what we call a company, a bigger pack which produces things, and trades them for other things." He decided against trying to explain currency. "And then, the pack leaders of the companies, because they pay more tribute to a governing body of pack leaders we call the government, get to choose together which pack leaders govern over all of them. And then above those government pack leaders is Kaiser Franz, who is the pack leader for everyone in my country, a pack leader of a nation I suppose you could say." He explained. "Of course, that's just how it works in my big nation-pack, Austria-Hungary. Here, for example, it works a bit differently. I could try and explain the system where we are if you want, I imagine you already know some from observing humans however." He concluded. He didn't look over to her because he knew wolves weren't keen on eye contact.

Kana paid half attention to his story "um no...I already know about the humans that live nearby...What is it like having a mother?" She asked more interested in the sense of family rather than the talk of packs, in fact the one thing he should have noticed was that Kana was...Until now, always on her own, surely she had family or a pack at some point.

Suddenly, Leo stopped. He was a little shocked - she didn't have a mother? It hadn't occurred to him that she was the only one of her kind around, surely she would have moved in a pack with them if she was. He felt like smacking his forehead for not realising, but refrained. "Well, I'm not sure if my mother's typical, but it is very reassuring to have a mother. I didn't grow up with a father, he was killed in the Hungarian Revolution back in 1848. She was fairly wealthy, not rich, but upper middle class. She was an older woman, and I an only child, so she was strict, and not the kind of woman to show affection very openly, but... I could tell somehow, that she cared quite deeply about me. She scoffs at my profession sometimes, saying I should have stayed in the army after my conscription like my father, but I think privately she's proud of me. I love her dearly, being my only close relative." He said, lost in thought for a moment. Then he remembered where he was. "Um... I hate to ask, it's terribly impolite of me, but... Are you the only one... Of your kind?" He asked slowly. He was wiping away a few beginnings of tears from thinking of his mother, and what it would be like living without her. He couldn't begin to imagine what it felt like for Kana.

Kana stopped when she noticed Leo stopped confused why he did, did she say something wrong? Hearing him talk about his mother it didn't help her at all, in the village the mothers were sweet and caring, but he did come from very far away maybe not all mothers are the same?
She perked up at the question, unsure what to answer, she was the only one left, but there were others many years ago, she wouldn't share that with him "as far as I know...Yes" she replied not wanting to discuss personal details like Rose, no she would not involve her if possible, not that she'd care since she left.

Leo was rather disturbed by this. "How awful... It's absolutely vital we don't let your species die out." He said, determined. "I will use all my knowledge to try and find a solution. Such a beautiful species leaving the face of the earth - it would be unforgivably tragic!" He was almost shouting, but managed to keep his voice down. He breathed a little, and calmed himself down. "On a cheerier note... I think I've come up with a scientific name for your species. Us humans are Homo Sapiens, the Indian Wolves are Canis Lupus Palippes, so I was thinking... Homo Lupus?" He suggested. Then he realised how stupid he might sound to her, since she most likely didn't know a great deal about taxonomy. He continued walking.

Kana began walking again and was pretty surprised at his words, though she didn't show it "I already have a species name, wolf girl, or I guess wolf people, it's just easier" she stated as they reached the camp finally being here in the day and not having to crawl she could check this out "you know, you setting your camp here really sucks for me, do you know how hard it is to carry a kill back the long way around?" She asked not sounding too angry about the situation just a little annoyed.

Leo laughed nervously. "Well, I'm afraid I did place it on your main hunting route because I was trying to spot you. Anyway," He apologised, then quickly ran over to the map. "Come and have a look, we're here." He put his finger on the Central Provinces of India on the map, then moved his other finger over to Europe and put his finger on Austria-Hungary. "I came all the way from here. I set out from Trieste, went down here." He moved his finger down to Egypt. "Went through the Suez Canal, which is a large river that they constructed across here to allow ships to get past without having to go all the way around this landmass here, which is Africa. Then I got off here in the city of Bombay." He moved his finger up to the coast of India, to the west of the Central Provinces. "Then I took the train here, and walked into the jungle." He finished, beaming with excitement at being able to share the wonders of the modern world with someone who knew nothing of them. "By the way, did you know that the language you speak comes from this island here?" He asked, pointing at the British Isles.
