The sun shone brightly upon the jungle trees, illuminating the vibrant growth of the world. Birds sung, insects buzzed, and water burbled from a small stream toward a beautiful lake. The sun's light refracted in dazzling displays against the trees surrounding this hidden oasis, creating a sense of calm wonder for all who may enter.
Such was the reason the great naga, Jota, had chosen to reside here. The serpent-man lay upon a branch that stretched out over the edge of the water, his coils draped loosely around his resting place. He came here often after a meal, resting as the food settled into his body, just as he settled into a deep state of relaxation. There was no place he'd rather be.
Even in the light reflected by the pool, one might confuse the great serpent for a mass of tangled branches or clump of vines; his underbelly was a pale brown, while his coat of scales bore a deep green his. Upon closer inspection, maroon spots could be discerned in a repeated pattern down his back, ending at a deep red tip of the tail. To say he was large was not quite an understatement, but he wasn't the biggest of his species.
Of course, from most angles, no one would be able to see his human torso. Tanned skin in the manner of both his local people and the local humans, with a decent build of body and modest length of hair, the naga lay upon his own body, eyes lidded in deep rest, if not slumber. It could be difficult for him to be disturbed at this time... but not impossible...

A few miles away there was a human camp site where there lived a botanist; Professor Smith and his 17 year old daughter named Lily.
Lily has fair skin, 5’4, very bleached blonde hair that was medium length, and pure hazel eyes.
She had been living with her father for about six years after her mother had passed away. She adjusted well to the jungle environment, able to recognize deadly plants, able to sleep through the sounds of animals, and how to make fire.
Unfortunately, the only thing Lily hadn’t master was a scene of direction. She left the camp momentarily when she was chased out by three jackals. Lily managed to escape but she got hopelessly lost.
Lily eventually stumbled upon a beautiful lake. Tired and thirsty, she knelt down and scoop up a handful of water.

The sound of disturbed water reached the ears of the lazing serpent. Those ears twitched, and the great form shifted from its stasis. Raising to his arms, Jota blinked his eyes open adjusting to the light. A yawn and a stretch later, he cast his gaze around the lake, searching for the sound.
Itvwas then he spotted the girl.
Now, Jota was not unfamiliar with humans. He'd had interactions with the local tribes in his jungle for years. But this girl... He was unsure if he had ever seen anything like her. Her hair shone in the light of the noon day sun, and brought the fair pigment of her skin life as well. More curious than anything, the naga crept along his branch, silent as silk, watching her carefully.

Lily splashed some water on her face then shook her head though some droplets landed on her tight powder blue tank top. She was also wear brown capris and brown boots.
As she sat up, Lily had an odd feeling that she was being watched. The girl stood up and looked around but saw nobody. Then she pulled out a compass from her pocket.

A small smile crossed Jota's lips as he watched her. Certainly not of the jungle, this one. Yet intriguing nonetheless.
Seeing her pull out her compass only piqued his interest more. Never seen something like that, he thought.
"Curious..." he breathed. Maybe a tad too loud...

Lily stiffened when she suddenly heard a voice. She slowly moved hand to her knife holster... but to her horror there was no knife. Instead she quickly moved her head around, looking for any sign of another human.
“Hello,” Lily called out. “Who said that?” Her hazel eyes shifting.

Jota grimaced, silently cursing himself for his carelessness. Not of the jungle; naturally, she was going to be worried about a random voice.
He noted her hand moving to her belt, and saw the empty sheath she touched. Scared and defenseless... not good. He had to move quickly, or one of them was going to get hurt...
"Don't be alarmed," he called to her. His eyes scanned the jungle floor around her, looking for any sign of the tool she had misplaced. "I'm not going to hurt you."

Lily, still on edge, was somewhat relieved to hear that she wouldn’t be harm but how could she believe in that.
“Who are you?” The girl asked aloud, her eyes still searching, “Where are you?”

"I understand you are scared," Jota assured her. "My name is Jota."
Where was it, where was it, where--THERE! Glinting in the sunlight, his target rested by a tree near the edge of the lake clearing. Moving his tail along the tree limbs, he continued to speak to the frightened girl.
"I noticed you were here, and seemed to be enjoying my lake. I promise, I was only watching. Are you looking for the knife behind you?"
His tail tip dropping down from the tree above, Jota carefully probed the weapon, searching for the safe end. Once grasped, he lifted it off the ground and held it in the air, plain to see.

“Jota,” Lily repeated to herself. She listened to what he said. “This is your lake. I’m sorry to intrude.”
Hearing him speak at the knife behind her, Lily tried to reach out for it but then she saw the large deep green snake tail and stopped in her tracks. She had seen snakes before but this one appeared to be huge. And when Lily saw it with her own knife pointed at her, her blood ran cold.
“If you are Jota and you don’t want to hurt me, drop the knife please.” Lily pleaded.

Jota cursed himself again; of course she be nervous, he holding her weapon after all. Looking his tail, the tool dropped to the earthen floor again. "My apologies... I merely wanted to return it was all."
While he spoke, he lowered his torso from the tree branch and down into the water. A gentle splash could be heard as he did so. "I am behind you, my dear. Please don't be alarmed."

Lily was both surprised and relieved but she also felt bad after Jota explained that he just wanted to help. So far this has been less than normal but perhaps she judged too quickly. Then she heard the splashing and Jota’s voice. Okay, this time she would try not to be so nervous, she told herself.
When Lily finally turned around she was not afraid but very surprised. She saw a man, at least upper half of one, in the water. Lily definitely would have remembered seeing him.
“Are- Are you Jota?” Lily stammered.

Jota smiled, his shoulders heaving along with his heavy sigh. "I am," he affirmed. He was shirtless, being unaccustomed to needing any clothes like humans did. His dark hair draped down his neck, thankfully unsoaked by the lake water. His eyes, though... even in midday, his eyes seemed to glow a brilliant garnet orange, and his pupils... they appeared almost reptillian...
After an awkward moment, the "man" gestured to her. "And you are...?"

When Jota affirmed himself Lily felt calmer however when she looked Jota in the eye, she almost lost her self. She had never seen such a unique eye color before. They looked like fire.
Lily was still gazing before Jota spoke again. The girl blushed, “Oh, sorry. My name is Lily.” She tried to hide her face in embarrassment with her hand.

"Lily. What a beautiful name," he mused with a smile and a nod. "Forgive me for all of this. Not the cleanest of first impressions, I will admit."
He took a moment to examine the girl more closely, now that he was closer to her. He had known many a healthy young woman, human, naga, or otherwise, but Lily was... unique, in a way. Being the first visitor from outside the jungle (at least, that is what he assumed at this point) he had ever met, she was both a novel curiosity and an intriguing specimen.
