It didn't take long for the pack to arrive. Four of them, precisely; large, lithe, and hungry.
Upon seeing Jota, the jackals skidded to a halt, their deep growls and bared teeth all the evidence Jota needed to know they were not here to say hello. All of them stood back, eyes fastened upon the naga, fur standing on end. One of the few times he appreciated how scary he appeared.
One dog crept closer, sniffing at the air. A subtle growl, followed by a loud bark.
Jota replied in kind, mimicking the jackal almost perfectly, plus a few hand gestures. This exchange went on for some time, Jota being growled at, he returning the sentiment.

Lily floated there quietly and listened to all the grunts and growls. As time passed the girl steadily grew nervous and even shifted a little but immediately stopped and stayed quiet.
Lily thought to herself, ‘What’s to become of me?’

As if in response, the coils that surrounded her gently compressed, squeezing her in an oddly gentle manner. Was Jota... hugging her?

That’s how it felt to Lily anyway. Large scaly, slightly wet blankets hugging her closely. The cool water should have chilled the girl to the point of discomfort but the coils started grow warmer under the sun’s rays. Lily was enjoying herself so well, she closed her eyes and rested against her scaly habitat that she practically surrendered to.

A few moments passed by, growling and snarling, pressing and warming... if one wasn't careful, they could get lost in it all...
It really wasn't too much longer before Lily would feel herself being pulled out of the waters to the shore. "Are you alright?" inquired her protector as he lay her upon the ground, loosing her from his body.

Lily would have fallen asleep had Jota not pulled her out of the lake and onto the shore. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled lightly at the naga.
Lily rubbed her eye, to remove the sleepiness. “I’m alright,” she sat up. “I actually wouldn’t mind your coils around me again. They’re nice.”

Jota closed his mouth, his reply lost behind the blinking of his eyes, the raising of his brows. "Uh... I mean, that's--" With a cough, he continued. "I'll keep that in mind... I guess. But we need to get you out of here."

Lily shook her head, coming back to her senses.
“Yes of course.” She replied. “My dad will be worried.”
Lily stood up and tried to wring the water from her pants.

Jota furrowed his brow. "Your father? The Jackals never mentioned him..."

“That doesn’t matter. I should get back to the camp.” Lily said.

Lily pulled out her compass from her pant pocket but to here sorrow, the compass was damaged in the water.
"I know my camp is close to the eastern village," Lily said. "But I’m not sure where that is and those jackals might prove to be a problem if they're still close by.”

Jota looked a the device in her hand curiously as she spoke. "Well... As for where you camp is..." The naga glanced up to the sun, before looking off into a direction from the lake. Pointing, he continued, "That's the way to the eastern village. Just under a mile, give or take the foliage along the way. But you are right... I barely convinced the jackals you weren't here in the first place, and I doubt they've gone too far..."
He fell silent a moment, pondering the options. Eventually, he turned, he turned to Lily and asked, with a straight face, "You don't mind sharing a bed, do you?"

Lily listened to what Jota was saying feeling slightly hopeful up until the jackals were mentioned. Lily also tried to weigh her options when Jota looked at her and asked about sharing a bed.
Lily’s eyes went wide and she nearly choked on her own breath. She smiled softly. “Excuse me?” Lily said.

"Are you comfortable sharing a bed?" Jota repeated. "The day is getting old, and night comes fast in the jungle. The best option we have, then, is for you to spend the night with me," he pointed up towards his tree, above the lake, "up there. The jackals don't climb, even if they could smell you, and they will likely have moved in by morning."
