Somewhere between the depths of the jungle, where the canopy was so thick that it was dark and few things bloomed, and the jungle's shores, where trees grew sparser and opened out onto vast plains where herds moved and villages grew, somewhere in between the two extremes, a magical being was enjoying some sunbathing. She was, from head to waist at least, an ordinary human girl, but below her waist, instead of legs, was a mass of vines, adorned with leaves and small flowers, that grew straight out of the ground. Her name was Ilnia, and despite being tied to the ground by roots, she wasn't stationary, her vines could connect and disconnect with the ground below with ease, allow her to glide without hindrance so long as sunlight and water were nearby. At present she had grown one of her vines into a gigantic flower for her to lay upon whilst she watched the clouds go by, the sound of a gentle stream emanating from the other side of the mound she was set up beside. She sighed, relaxed, wondering if this day could get any better.

How could Anika's day get any worse?
The 16-year-old girl went to the river outside her village to gather water when she spotted a beautiful gazelle on the other side of the river. As quietly as possible and forgetting her chore, she tried to get closer to the creature but then it dashed away. Anika didn't think twice and ran after it... but suddenly a jackal jumped from a bush and blocked the girl's path.
The beast growled at her but Anika threw her jug at him and it broke on his face. Anika took her chance and ran away but in her hast, she went in further into the jungle where the canopy grew thicker and thicker. Minutes flew by before Anika finally stopped when she realized the jackal didn't follow her and she looked up, she realized she was lost.
Anika, brushing her long black hair out of her face and getting the dust off her blue and orange skirt, tried to retake her steps. The few blooming plants and darkened shades troubled her somewhat but she knew she had to keep going. A lone vine brushed against her head face but she just slapped it away irritated.

Feeling one of her perimeter vines come into contact with something, Ilnia groaned and went to investigate. Following the roots down which she'd felt it, it seemed that it was one of the vines she'd draped from a tree to dangle down... Ilnia looked around for the source of the disturbance, and to her surprise, saw a human girl walking along, just a short distance away. Ilnia followed from a safe way away, looking carefully at the girl. It had been a while since she'd seen a human, but she quite liked the look of this one - Ilnia thought she looked pretty, and she could do with more pretty things around besides herself. She decided to wait for now, watching where the girl would go and what she would do.

Anika rubbed the sides of her head with her slim fingers and groaned.
"What is wrong with me?" she groaned and then she sighed.
Anika then noticed how dry her lips felt. 'Maybe if I find a river I can have a drink and find my way back.' she thought to herself.
Anika took a few steps ahead until she finally heard the sound of streaming water and followed it, unaware that she too was being followed.

Seeing her head for the stream, Ilnia put her hand to her lips and giggled. "Alright then, I'll just move upstream..." Ilnia said to herself, and moved a vine through the earth underneath the riverbed, where she broke it through and sprouted a flower bud from it. The bud then opened, releasing a sizeable amount of sweet nectar into the water. Further down near Anika's end of the stream, it would have dissolved and would no longer be visible, but it's effects would still be very real - every drop she consumed, the thirstier she'd get, and the more she had, the more suggestible she would become. Ilnia allowed herself another small laugh, and perched atop a tree to watch Anika from afar. It turned out that this day could get better after all!

Anika sighed in relief at the sight of the river and wasted no time in getting on her knees and scooped up some water to drink. Oh, how cool the water was to the girl's dry lips. Anika smacked her lips again after her first gulp, she decided that one was simply not enough and so she continued with another. The water seemed here seemed almost... sweeter compared to the river water back at the village but that hardly mattered to the girl right now. Far from finished or suspicious, Anika kept scooping up more water even when some splashed against her light tan wrap of a top.

Ilnia knew that with every drink that Anika took, the safer she was to get closer, so she approached further every time Anika drank.
"Drink more, drink more, you are so thirsty" She whispered, in such a way that it would be carried on the wind and only subtly enter Anika's subconscious. She knew the girl would be being affected to be more suggestible by now, so she just had to escalate Anika's descent into obedience. She moved vines underground ready to plunge out and wrap the girl up, nice, safe and tight...

"Thirsty..." Anika whispered as she scooped her fourth helping. But then she froze in movement. "Why did I say that?" she wondered. As she wondered the water in her hands splashed on her face and in her hair. The thought was quickly washed away in her growingly fuzzy mind and her hands scooped up another drink of water almost unbidden. The water tasted too heavenly for her to ignore and she almost forgot her surroundings.

Ilnia now felt confident enough to approach within proper hearing distance of Anika. She wasn't quite at the putty-in-hands stage yet, but it wasn't much fun getting to that stage without some playing to get the putty soft. "You said that because you were thirsty, and you should drink more. It feels good, so it can't be bad, right?" Ilnia said to her, in her deceptively delicate voice.

Anika finished her sip when she heard someone talking.
"Yeah, I guess that's--" the girl stopped in midsentence and then she gasped. She grabbed a rock from the streamed and turned to see what was behind her, ready to strike but she froze in surprise at what she saw.

Ilnia was unfased, and advanced toward Anika. "Oh my, such violence. I'm sure it's just stress. Drinking will help with that." Ilnia said in her soft voice, not raising it a decibel, and Anika would have to listen carefully to hear what she said properly, ensuring that her words entered Anika's psyche a lot more effectively, and much deeper. She formed another flower bud in the river bed, but this time filled it with the water from the stream, nectar mixture and all. "Here, now you can take a nice, long gulp." She said quietly, moving alongside her and reaching out her arm to place across Anika's shoulders, drawing the flower closer for Anika to drink from. In the meantime, she had some smaller flowers bloom along the vines from her waist, which emitted an alluring scent into the air that would influence Anika further with their sickly sweet smell.

Anika's sudden alertness nearly overcame the fuzziness in her mind, but it was not enough to clear her head completely. She only heard the last few words about drinking. But even so, the words Ilnia said affected the girl's mind greatly.
Anika flinched when Ilnia held an arm around her shoulder's and drew the flower closer to her lips. At first, the girl wouldn't part her lips when the flower came close but at the smell of the flowers and the nectar, she began to relax a little and the rock slipped out of her hand. A small drive of resistance kept her from parting her lips though and she kept her deep brown eyes closed as well.

Deciding she needed some encouragement, Ilnia reached out to the back of her head and stroked it fondly, happy to feel hair other than her own again. She massaged Anika's head, and moved down to her shoulders as well, rubbing gently and carefully. "Just open your mouth so you can parch your thirst now..." She whispered into her ear, making sure she was close so that Anika got that shivery feeling from it that helped get words really stuck into a person's mind.
"And after that, why don't you tell me how you got here?" Ilnia asked quietly.

Anika lost control from the message to her neck, the fingers working like magic, she parted her lips, taking in that sweetened water. Ilnia's words sounded like music to the girl's ears and she shivered. Hearing Ilnia's question, Anika's eyes opened part way as she finished gulping.
Anika spoke softly. "I- I'm lost... because I ran from a ja-jackal." she then rubbed her right eye, trying to wake up.

Turning round to see Anika from the front, Ilnia saw that she was opening her eyes. "Well, reality can be a nightmare. Wouldn't it be nice to wake up to a dream?" Ilnia commented softly. She just moved her head from side to side so Anika could see the subtle patterns in her pupils, and she angled it so that the sun reflected off her hair, to dazzle Anika a bit. She didn't use her hypnotic eyes because she didn't want to batter Anika's brain like that at the moment, she was enjoying gently easing her into it. Of course, Anika would probably appreciate the experience a little later. She released more pheromones, and now she was in front of Anika, the scent would enter her nose easier.
