"Oh, I see... Well, I think it should be fine, especially since it's been so long since you were scratched and nothing that bad seems to have happened..." Kumi trailed off - what she wanted to say was that maybe Layla should have a doctor look at it just in case, but there wasn't one in the village and Layla seemed shy to discuss it. Maybe she was embarrassed that she made a mistake by getting scratched? Anyways, as she had just herself said, it all seemed fine... So Kumi decided to drop the matter, and put anxious thoughts aside to happily walk alongside her cousin toward the roaring bonfire in the middle of the village. She grinned and waved to her mother as they entered the square. "Look, there's the family - should we go over an-" Kumi stopped short as she noticed Layla with a very distant expression on her face. A shiver seemed to run up her cousin's spine, and for a moment Kumi panicked - what if she had made the wrong decision, what if Layla really did need help from a doctor? What happened next was strange, but to Kumi it warranted a sigh of relief. She just wants to dance, she thought to herself, that's all - nothing's wrong with her after all.
Layla swung her hips in a snakelike dance with very precise and particular movements and timing, and only the snake-charmer himself seemed to notice that it was exactly in time with his snake. But he gave it no mind, assuming this strange foreigner was making a kind of compliment to his skill. Snake charming so good it could charm a girl too? Something like that, he guessed, and didn't let it distract or interrupt him any further. A couple of villagers that had been sat watching the snake-charming performance clapped uncertainly as Layla stopped her dance, confused but impressed by Layla's unnatural flexibility and skill. Kumi was a bit gobsmacked herself, amazed that her cousin had such a talent, and totally without Kumi's knowledge. "Oh, the charmer? He's our neighbour, Mr Halan, he does it as a hobby. He's pretty good though, wouldn't you say? He insists he's just an amateur, though. Anyway, shall we go sit down? I think the feast is about to start!" Kumi grabbed her cousin by the wrist and excitedly guided her round the table to join Layla's aunt.

As if glancing into the eyes of a stranger, Layla’s gaze met Kumi’s upon feeling her wrist being tugged. She blinked slowly, as if trying to process the scene. For a second, a reddish hue seemed to envelope Layla’s pupils as she was being taken away from the music. Shivers preceded a nod and then, Layla was glancing at the food by the family’s table. Suddenly, she felt hunger. Her left hand reached to rub her tummy and while still thinking of the food, she let Kumi guide her to the table.
Layla sat between Kumi and her aunt, shyly keeping her hands on her lap under the table. She was worried some of the dishes wouldn’t suit her picky taste. Worst case, she would have to eat fruit and go to sleep but fortunately for her the variety of dishes on the table put her worries at ease. She stretched to grab a mango for starter, eating mellowly as conversation went on, only stepping in when asked something directly.

"You've got to at least try some of these!" Kumi encouraged Layla, knowing about her picky eating, and got a little of everything to put on both their plates - from fried banana and vegetable curry to small roast birds and slices of pork. She's gotta be starving! She hasn't had anything to eat since she got off that boat in the afternoon... "Anything you don't want, I'll finish for you!" She added, with one of her trademark grins. Layla's aunt nodded approvingly, although with a stern look on her face as she looked at Layla. Whatever she was thinking though, the lady didn't say, and turned away to continue her conversation with one of the village elders.
As the night passed on, the bonfire was allowed to gradually die down, allowing those gathered to increasingly contemplate the good fortune of the moon's rare equinox. Elders stood to give speeches, some performers came to dance around the last embers of the bonfire, and several songs were sung together. Halan came round at one point to shortly thank Layla and Kumi for enjoying his snake charming earlier, before briskly moving past to talk with Layla's aunt and the elder. Kumi stretched and yawned as the assembled slowly began to depart. "I guess we should be getting back soon, huh?" She asked, turning to Layla.

With a subtle frown on her expression, Layla forced a nod in agreement at the sight of her cousin filling her plate with all sorts of unknown dishes. A sigh would help her calm down and as soon as the firsts bites were given, her expression changed completely. A faint blush painted her cheeks, perhaps the effect of the glimpse of embarrassment flashing in her mind. Over her shoulder, she looked at Kumi just to make sure she didn’t notice her reaction. After that, the rest of the dinner was rather uneventful, for an outsider as Layla, even though one would think she would have a lot to say, no words came to her mind. Not even for her cousin who has been one of the few villagers to show interest in to know about the outside world.
After dinner, as the festival went on, Layla spent most of it listening to others talk. She couldn’t help but feel a bit bored, after all, even though she knew that the villager’s wisdom was valuable, her mind failed to find a way she could use it. The songs seemed dull and perhaps even a tad silly, the dances failed to cause any emotion in her… the slow burning joy of the festival caused a flood of mixed feelings to wash over Layla’s mind. Fortunately for her, or at least so the thought, she could hide it behind a smile whenever she greeted a stranger and was asked about the festival. When the time to greet Harlan finally came came, Layla’s eyes sparkled with interest, a brief chat followed before things moved back to the now routinely “listen to others conversations”. Once activity began to wane, Layla couldn’t help but feel like she didn’t belong there and even though her cousin’s feelings probably weren’t the same, the mention of going back made Layla nod. Without giving it a second thought, Layla stood up and moved to let her aunt know she and Kumi were going back to the hut to turn in for the night.
The path back to the hut was bathed by the reddish glow of the moonlight… it could be seen shining atop of the trees. Abnormally silent, Layla walked next to her cousin. Having spent the night together, she didn’t have much to say. Whatever talk regarding the festival was probably a matter for the next morning to discuss. Layla reached to touch the bandages on her forearm after feeling a weak pinch underneath. She narrowed her eyes and while still walking glanced at the wound. Instantly, memories of her encounter with that strange snake began to fill her mind. The hissing, the voice…. the eyes. She blinked slowly, her gaze moved back to the path ahead of them while the music of the festival still filled the background, making the moon look even prettier… making her smile... Under her glasses, the hazel hue of her eyes began to reflect the moonlight, her hips swayed subtly and as her eyes glanced deeply into the moon, the darkness of the jungle seemed to engulf her. Each step brought her deeper into that strange feeling, it was mysterious... it was pleasant... And then, suddenly, Layla halted... Staring deeply into the moon while the world around her faded, her smile changing from dreamy into devious as the red hue of the moon began to glow in her eyes...

In spite of having been alerted to Layla's increasingly weird behaviour, Kumi had indeed been too excited by the distracting festival to notice Layla's embarrassment, or her disinterest. Kumi had been talking so much, and had joined in with every song, that she was too tired for conversation as she and Layla walked back together. The fact that the two cousins could simply enjoy silence together was something that Kumi considered indicative of how close they were - Kumi often would declare that Layla was her favourite relative. As they walked, Kumi was looking at the moon too, but also at the trees and the encroaching darkness, at her feet kicking up dirt on the ground, and she hummed some of the night's songs to herself. The one thing she was not watching, however, was Layla. Kumi didn't see Layla staring into the moon, she didn't see Layla begin to swing her hips like when she'd been snake charmed... Kumi was completely oblivious.
That is, until she realised that Layla had stopped, a few paces behind her. Kumi walked up slowly, concerned. The girl was stretched up onto her toes, neck extended, all as if she was trying to get a closer look at the moon, as though she were drawn to it like a moth to a flame. A sickening expression spread across Layla's face as Kumi approached. "L-Layla...?" Kumi asked, the seeds of doubt and fright beginning to sprout in the simple village girl's mind. "Are you alright?" Her voice trembled, and she slowed down her approach, fearful to get too close to Layla in this unnatural, alien state.

So… pretty… I had never seen a full moon like this before.
The world around her had already vanished to the point she failed to notice Kumi nor hear her voice. Still smiling... still glancing deeply at the moon, Layla's head began to sway too, alternating with her hips motion. A low, mellow hum left her lips and as the red glow dulled her eyes, a slightly more unsettling tone began to overtake the melody. Her lips parted and soon after, her left hand darted towards the bandages, trying desperately to get rid of them. She scratched her arm and soon after, the bandage found its way down onto the dirt revealing what she had been trying to hide.
She’s looking at us Layla…
She? Who is she?... Who are you?...
Silly girl… Just ssstare deeper into the moon…
T-The moon?... It’s sooo pretty… Yess… the moon… I want to… stare…
Standing there... bathed by the reddish glow of the moon... dumbfounded and abstracted by its glow... Layla sighed, a soft sound that seemed a mix of a deep breath and a chuckle. Still swaying, her eyes strayed from the moon and moved to glance deeply into Kumi's
Now now… What do we have here?~
Layla blinked slowly, the dull in her eyes seemed to fade with each bat. Her pupils widened, they weren’t the same round voids in the sea of hazel of her eyes… these were different. Elongated, dark ovals in the reddish hue of her eyes. Her neck followed her eyes, until she was facing Kumi. Another chuckle escaped her lips, her hand reached her glasses to remove them and then, Layla took a step forward.
“Why wouldn’t I be alright ssweetie…”
More playful chuckles left Layla’s lips, right after the strange hissing?... One foot after the other, Layla paced towards Kumi. Her hips swaying left and right and her eyes… her deep crimson eyes pierced right into her cousin’s. Layla tossed her glasses at a nearby bush, she didn’t need them anymore.
“The question is… Will you be alright after we’re done tonight?... Let’s find out~”
Layla lunged forward, stopping right before Kumi in the blink of an eye. Still smiling, she reached to trace her nails up on the girl's arm. Blinking slowly, she bowed just enough to shorten the distance between their eyes... until her warm breath blew on Kumi's face.
"I though I was your favourite cousin... Don't tell me you're scared of Layla" Layla spoke with a sultry, playful tone... Something that she hadn't done before... Something that despite being unsettling, she seemed to enjoy. "She didn't tell you did she?... That's good~" Layla kept shortening the distance between her face and Kumi's until she could whisper into her ear. "That only makes my job easier..."

"Why are your hips moving like that again? Are you dancing?" Kumi asked, knowing even as she asked these things that it was very unlikely that they were the reason for Layla's strange behaviour. The hungry stare in Layla's eyes - something was unmistakably wrong here. As Layla turned her gaze to Kumi, at first it seemed things had returned to normal. However, before Kumi could breathe a sigh of relief, she jumped in shock: she'd just noticed Layla's eyes. Reptilian was the only word for them, regarding Kumi with an alien coldness. Kumi gasped in hurt surprise again as she heard Layla speak... It was cold, harsh even. Barely even resembling Layla's voice - it was her voice, yes, but being used in a way so different to how Layla would ever used it that it was nearly unrecognisable. As Layla asked why she wouldn't be alright, Kumi found herself unable to answer, stunned into silence as she stared wide-eyed in horror at the thing her cousin was becoming. As Layla casually tossed her glasses aside, and spoke again in that frigid voice, it finally clicked. She didn't know how, she didn't know why, but Kumi was certain now. "Y-you're not Layla!" She accused, stuttering from her trembling. She was terrified just making this accusation, and it showed. "Or s-something's happened to you..." She added more quietly, becoming less certain of herself as Layla drew closer, touching her. Layla was Kumi's favourite cousin for many reasons, and for one of these, Kumi didn't want to move away as she felt Layla being intimate with her. It was scary the way Layla was acting, but it was also more attention than her cousin usually gave her, and so, despite her instincts crying out against it, Kumi didn't try to run. "She didn't t-tell me? Who? Tell me what?!" Kumi asked urgently - this strange statement of Layla seemed to further suggest that somehow, this was not Layla. Maybe Layla just thought she was two people? Maybe it was an illness Layla had that was acting up? Kumi simply couldn't be sure. She was determined to stay and try to figure out what was wrong with her cousin. However, this determination did not steel her so much that it protected her from shivering as Layla whispered seductively in Kumi's ear.

"Of course I'm not~ Do you think she would be able to..." A playful chuckle left Layla's lips as her face kept approaching menacingly... Hoovering towards Kumi's ear where the vibrating hiss of Layla's voice caressed Kumi's ear. "...take what she wantss, the moment she wants it... the way she wants it?..." As she leaned back, her cheek rubbed briefly on Kumi's, her hand reached to stroke the girl's other cheek and while blinking slowly, Layla's gaze pierced into her cousin's. For a second, the crimson glow on Layla's eyes flashed. It was a subtle, quick flicker that caused her grin to shift into a smugger one as she fell silent for a few seconds, lost in thought.
Oh?... isn't it ready yet?...
Her eyelids narrowed as her index moved to tap on her chin. Could it be that Layla's body was unable to?... Maybe she was somehow resisting her influence?... She sighed, failing to notice that while her focus strayed from Kumi and split between her eyes and her mind her eyes had begun to shift... Near the center of her reptilian irises, a small dot would soon after pulsate outwards, flashing a bright hue of emerald green on her eyes. A ring on sapphire blue would follow and then, after blinking, they would be back to the natural reddish tinge they had.
"Don't look so scared little Kumi... Isn't this what you wanted? To be close to Layla? To know her secrets and desires?... To share all kind of interesting experiences with her even if that meant trying things you weren't sure?" Layla leaned back after realizing she might need more time for that to happen. Her hips still swaying, she began to push her cousin backwards... deeper into the darkness of the bushes by the side of the road. "Isn't that the thought that crossed your mind when Layla gave you those sneakers as a gif? Were you not thinking of that when she showed you the bright, pretty colours of her cellphone's screen?" Playfully, her fingers reached to trace up and down Kumi's locks. "I can tell what you're thinking right now... Even now you're still willing to follow Layla... Aren't you?"

"Take what you want...? No! You can't have my cousin!" Kumi protested. She misunderstood what this new Layla was saying - she assumed she meant taking Layla's body. It didn't occur to Kumi that this creature might be intending to take her. A small gasp escaped Kumi's lips and her eyes widened as Layla's eyes flashed - her mind blanked out for a second, then she shook her head to clear it, feeling a little dizzy and disoriented. Quick as it was, the memory of that flash erased itself from Kumi's mind. As spirals appeared then disappeared between Layla's blinks, this happened to Kumi again and again, her attention arrested suddenly by the spirals for a moment, then returning to normal feeling dazed and not remembering the spirals. Kumi could feel she was forgetting things happening, missing seconds, and the confusion built cumulatively until Kumi felt completely lost. Wh...What's going on... "Bright... Pretty... Follow..." Kumi murmured, caught in the aftermath of one of the flashes of spirals. But then, Kumi blinked, and regained herself. "You're not Layla, so I'm not following you! I'm going to save her from you, whatever you are..." Kumi tried to be brave as she said this, but couldn't entirely hide the trembling in her voice, especially as she trailed off toward the end.

The puzzled expression on Layla's face deepened after noticing the strange reaction in Kumi. It caught her by surprise too, in her mind that was not supposed to work or at least it didn't feel like it was. The realization of what was happening made her grin grow even more impish. Slowly, Layla chuckled, her head tilted forward just enough for the shade casted on her face by her fringe to darken her expression and right above her smile... a ring of deep, soothing emerald lit her eyes. Layla's hand cupped Kumi's cheek tender at first, growing more inviting as she stroked down the girl's skin. Then, a ring of bright blue flashed on her eyes. Like a cat pawing at her prey, Layla's eyes kept flashing... testing the effect of the lambent gleam.
Interesting... I didn't think it would feel like this...
Layla kept pushing forward, using the weight of her body to guide Kumi back into the bushes. The soft sound of rattling filled the background briefly as Layla's feet made their way into the bush. Slowly, the sound of rattling waned into something that resembled a soft brushing. "Tsk tsk tsk... You're just saying that because you haven't ssseen it yet. You haven't felt how nice it is to follow yet... Specially if you're confused for some strange reason" Layla brought her index to tap on her chin, her demeanour tinged by coyness... more and more seductive as they walked deeper into the bushes. The sway of Layla's hips persisted as she emerged from the bush, gleams of green every time her hips went back and forth... Gleams of green as the lower half of Layla emerged from the bush. Crowned by her skirt, scaly coils slithered out of the bush. She stopped, letting Kumi step back just to allow the girl to see her whole self... The sight of a lamia under the reddish glow of the moon. Smiling, swaying... glaring into Kumi's eyes.
"Don't be afraid. I'm just as nice as Layla... Even if you don't know it yet you can feel it, I'm sure" Sneakily, Layla's tail tip approached, rubbing Kumi's ankles once it passed between Kumi's feet. "Those shivers you feel every time my mellow voice hisss..." Suddenly, with serpentine reflexes, Layla dashed forward, shortening the distance between her face and Kumi's. Her hand reached to stroke the girl's cheek once more and her tail would begin to push Layla up. Towering over her cousin, Layla's hand on her cheek pulled Kumi's gaze up, into hers. "I can tell by the way your eyes curiously seek for mine..." She approached even more, her eyes swirled a few rings, her head face approaching and retreating... A subtle way to test the ensnaring power of her hypnotic eyes. "Aren't you curious?..."

Kumi's mind was raging like a stormy sea - but every time a ring passed through those beautiful eyes of Layla's, it was like a ripple passed through that sea, and made it so peaceful and so calm that there wasn't even a single wave to be seen. As each ring disappeared again, the chaos of Kumi's mind returned, but each time it was just slightly calmer. The intoxicating colours were gradually having a cumulative effect on poor Kumi's psyche, it seemed. "I... Am... Confused..." Kumi murmured absent-mindedly, then gritted her teeth as the colours temporarily left Layla's eyes again. "No! Following isn't always good." She objected, as strongly as she could... Which wasn't very strongly by now. Kumi stepped back from Layla, intending merely to put a little distance between her and that deeply confusing gaze. Kumi still wasn't sure what it was about Layla's stare that made her so dizzy, so disoriented, but she had by now realised that the eyes were doing something to her. Then she saw the tail - and wanted to scream. The scream began to form in the back of Kumi's throat - then softly, slowly, died away, as Layla glared right into Kumi's eyes, and her concentration was all gone again as her mind became still for another moment. "As nice... As Layla?...W-...W-what have you done... What have you done with Layla?" It took a great deal of concentration for Kumi to ask, but her concern for her cousin allowed her to push through the mists of confusion momentarily. Layla moving closer, stroking her cheek - in the dizzying state Kumi was in, it all happened in a blur, with scarcely enough time to react, before Layla's words were again tightly coiling around Kumi's softening mind. She blushed slightly as Layla described the irresistable quality those magical eyes held now. "Curiousssss..." Kumi agreed as just one spiral reflected in her own eye, the blush deepening as she felt a wave of pleasure from agreeing with the seductive Lamia.

The sultry, devious echo of Layla's laughter in the jungle filled the silence for a few seconds. She was sure of it now... Still grinning, Layla allowed her tail to stretch even more, the tip wagging slowly right next to her. She pulled a strand of her now loose hair behind her left ear and while still looking at Kumi from above, she descended just to shorten the distance between their faces again. Like a cat playing with her prey, Layla's eyes swirled just a few rings of hypnotic hues that then faded after a blink. "That's right Kumi... You know something is going on I'm sure. You can feel it every time I..." Layla approached Kumi, her eyes filling with the shimmer of the enticing hues. "... approach you" Then, she would chuckle before pushing herself up again, putting more distance between their eyes as the hues waned. "Confusion keeps settling in for some reason but as soon as you see the pretty colours..." Layla approached again, directing another barrage of enticing rings into Kumi's eyes. "... it all fades for some reason you can't quite tell..."
Then, Layla changed the pace of the hypnotic motion of her face. She would sway her hips, a long waving motion that spread up her hips until her head rocked back and forth too. "Don't worry about Layla, Kumi... She's fine, she's just sssleeping" Slowly, a more soothing tone tinged Layla's voice. "It wasn't me. No, it was the moon that made her sleep. But you shouldn't worry about her. You shouldn't worry about a thing but the feeling growing in yourself. Confusion and relaxation keep swirling in your mind, it's easy to tell you're worried. Think of it Kumi... Are you worried because you're confused? Are you confused because of the reason of your concern?" Layla giggled playfully. "Think of it Kumi... Why are you confused?"

Kumi tried to step back from Layla as Layla moved in closer, but found that her feet wouldn't move. As Layla explained, about confusion and fading, things gradually fell into place and began to make sense to Kumi. This creature that looks like Layla - it's doing something to my mind! "Stop..." She mumbled uselessly, knowing now that something was being done to her, but unable to name what that thing was. Then the creature spoke about Layla. "Layla... Sleeping?" She asked, then yawned - the fact that this Lamia had mentioned sleep sunk as a suggestion into Kumi's mind, and made her start to feel sleepy. "Worried because I'm confused..." Kumi repeated after Layla, nodding slowly in agreement. It seemed logical - she had been worried, before the sleepiness began... She must have felt worried from the confusion. Yes, Layla must be right - her dear sleepy cousin that she could always trust... "I... I-I'm confused because... Because I'm sssssleepy..." Kumi whispered softly, slurring the word 'sleepy' as her mouth drooped, all the muscles in her body relaxing with the sleepiness that she felt.

"It's ssoo late... You and Layla had such a fun day... It's only normal that you're feeling sssleepy" Layla's hands cares stopped, she would begin to trace a spiral on Kumi's cheeks with her fingertips as the soothing hissing of her voice approached even more, cooing 's' straight into Kumi's ears... Not only that, the swirling hues would have moved closer too, following the hypnotic cadence of Layla's words. "Remember little Kumi... Remember how much you like sleeping next to Layla... Remember how restful and deep slumber is when you and Layla sleep together..." Slowly, as Kumi relaxed in Layla's embrace, the lamia's tail tip would begin to coil up to the girl's ankles. Loose, spacey loops to help the girl remain standing.
"Kumi... that's Kumi's... voice?" "Ssshhh~ Don't wake her up. She will soon be asleep right next to you"
"Remember your hammock. The way it wraps your body..." Another loop would coil up Kumi's body, a small gesture to emphasize her words. "Ssstare deeply into my eyes little Kumi. Now that our small misunderstanding is settled there's no need to be afraid of me. I'm Layla's friend... I'm your friend~ You can trust in me. I'll help you to relax" A brighter ring lit Layla's eyes, pulsating as Layla's hand scritched under Kumi's chin. "Keep staring and soon confusion will melt... Sssoon your thoughts will melt. It's only normal, that's what happens when you're asleep. That's what happens when you're dreaming" Layla rested her forehead on Kumi's. "The world around you blurs... You're feeling floaty... You're feeling numb... And it's all okay because you know that you can just follow me deeper into a lovely dream" Layla's hand strayed from Kumi's cheek, reaching her hand to hold it close and tug gently. "Allow your tired mind to sleep... Follow Layla, follow me and everything will be okay" For the first time since the swirls began it's assault on Kumi's mind, Layla broke eye contact just to approach Kumi's ear. Her lips rubbed softly on her ear as she whispered a simple command. "Sssay it little Kumi... Promise me that you will follow me."

Kumi was already struggling to fight off the sweet embrace of the soft hissing and the enrapturing spirals, but now the soft touch of Layla's fingertips tracing spirals into her cheek too. Her breathing became a pant, but Kumi managed to calm down again, having just gotten the hang of resisting the gentle touch of Layla's finger - when she felt those coils brushing against her ankles, and all control was lost again as the cool smooth scales made their gentle and soothing embrace. "Sleepy... Yes... Trust in friend..." Kumi's mouth was now reflecting what Layla said, the same way that her eyes reflected Layla's. As Layla broke eye contact, a panic set in, a desire to see those numbing, intoxicating spirals again. No, not a desire - a need. She'd do anything to get them back in that moment, so she ended up saying exactly what Layla told her to, even as Kumi's remaining conscious mind screamed out against it. "I promisssssse to follow you, and only you..." Kumi murmured softly, her lips only barely parting to let the soft, sleepy words float out. Even as she said it, she could feel herself starting to think it too. Yes... She could trust her friend to make her feel floaty and numb. She'll take care of me... Sleepy little me...
