"No it is no trouble. Jeffory has already been informed of this, that you might want to see it, or work on it. But by the time you get there I don't think you'll have enough time to get your camp set before it starts getting dark." She checks her wristwatch confirming her suspicion.
"You should be able to get a glance for a while before night. Well thank you for your visit and everything. Jeffory they're all yours," she gave a bit of humor at that part.
"I've already gotten the jeep gassed up we're ready to go if you are," Jeff said.

"We're ready." Zeke spoke both for himself and Jacob as they followed Jeffory out.
"So since we will not be able to set our camp up tonight, I assume we will be sleeping in the wooden hut?" Zeke asked as they walked to the jeep.

"We do have it set up for you to use for the time you'll be here. Feel free to use it whenever you like. Whether you wish to set up a camp and sleep at the site or at the hut feel free to do either. That vehicle you have requested shall be handed up tomorrow."
After a decent drive Jeffory pulled up to the area that was chosen as the dig site. Jeffory pulls out the map from the glove compartment and hands it over to Zeke.
"We are here now. I'll let you do your thing, I'll stand by if you need anything. Try not to linger too long."

One look was all it took for Zeke to realize that this truly was a promising dig site. Some remains of the ancient civilization still remained above ground, with old decrepit walls and pillars still standing here and there, covered with jungle vines and moss. The terrain looked very uneven, so Zeke took note that he and Jacob would really need to watch their step to avoid twisting an ankle.
"This place seems to have been untouched in centuries." Zeke commented to Jeffory. "I take it that most villagers are not too keen on exploring these ruins."

"No, as far as I know everybody from the village has been keeping away from this place."
Jeffory got out of the jeep and was seated on the hood.
"Yet I haven't the slightest idea why."
That part was true, for practically everyone. The reason they kept away it had been so long ago and yet nobody could remember why. Was it a curse and disturbing the land would unleash it? Did they simply want to preserve a piece of lost history? Well nobody had the answer.

Zeke and Jacob spent the next few minutes walking through the ruins, stopping every once in a while to examine a wall or pillar. Eventually, Zeke looked back at Jeffory.
"Okay I think we are done for today." Zeke said. "We can go back to the village now."

"Alrighty," Jeff responded. He checks his watch. "Good timing, will be back with plenty of time before it gets dark. Sorry if I sound like a broken record. It's just this place can be more dangerous at night, the preds like to hunt."
It didn't take long for them to get back and then Jeff dropped them off at the hut they were given.
"You'll have the supplies tomorrow probably around ten am. Well see you around."

"Thank you." Zeke replied. "See you tomorrow, hopefully."
Zeke then shut the door and latched the lock. "Well, we'd better get some shut-eye." he commented to Jacob, "We've got a big day ahead of us tomorrow."
"You don't have to tell me twice." Jacob chuckled. He was still experiencing jet-lag, which even his nap during the jeep ride had not cured.
The two of them rummaged through their backpacks and fished out some clothes that would be more comfortable to sleep in. Namely, tanktops and shorts. The bigger pairs were of course for Zeke.
Once they had both changed clothes, they both lay down in separate beds. Jacob fell asleep in practically no time at all, and Zeke followed shortly thereafter.

In time the whole village was turning in and the sun disappeared leaving the whole village in light of only in torches and moonlight.
While the village was sleeping shapes came out of the shadows. They moved so silently and quick like a wisp.
One went to a corral and slipped inside. It moved up to a cattle. the cow would have mooed at this, but it kept quiet. the moment it saw the shadow it was as if it's voice was gone. It even stood straight and began to follow the shadow.
Other shadows opened windows and slipped inside. They crept into the bedrooms of sleeping people. Quiet as a mouse the shadows slipped the blankets off of the sleeping bodies. The person stirs a little feeling the warmth change. The shadows wrap around their bodies. When they wake they would have screamed but they remain still and silent. Just like the animals when they face the shadows.
The shadows come closer and press against the flesh of their bodies, their arms or their necks. When the shadows let go a bleeding two point mark is left behind.

Unaware of the strange visitors now lurking in the village, Jacob and Zeke continued to sleep soundly, off in the Land of Dreams. Zeke had also been experiencing jet-lag through the day, but he was more used too it than Jacob, and therefore he was able to handle it better. But now, he was in nearly as deep of a sleep as Jacob was.

One of the shadows made their way to the two men's room. It opened a window and slipped inside. This hut last time was empty, but the shadow knew there were people inside.
It crept to one of the beds, but accidentally knocks over one of the bags they had brought. The shadow quickly grabs it just after it had made a slight noise from touching the ground.
As it set the bag down gently so it wouldn't make a sound... it's tail brushed against exposed skin

That exposed skin belonged to Jacob. Specifically, it was his bare arm that the shadow's tail brushed. It touched for only a second, but the cold, scaly feeling of it was enough to cause him to stir.
"Hmm...?" Jacob mumbled, slowly opening his eyes to see what it was that disturbed his slumber.

The shadow suddenly realizes what it had done and quickly heads for the window slipping back out into the darkness

Jacob blinked a few times and sat up as he quickly became more awake and alert, trying to sort out in his mind whether what he had just seen was real or a dream. There was only one way to get to the bottom of things, and that was to go outside and investigate.
Now getting out of bed completely, Jacob contemplated waking Zeke, but decided against it. All he needed to do was leave the hut for just a moment so he could confirm to himself that there really wasn't anything out there, and seeing some creature jumping out the window was all just his imagination. That was nothing to wake Zeke up over.
Being as silent as possible, Jacob walked outside, shutting the door behind him.

Once he was outside the 'shadow' was seen to have eyes red as blood and skin as pale as a lightless moon. Long strands of fur was flowing down it's head.
The 'thing' made a low hiss and scurried away heading straight for the village wall.
