"And on your right, there's a nice flock of Toucans for you to see! Notice the plumage in contrast to the rest of the tree! Almost like flowers strewn about the branches, yes?" The tour group gawked wordlessly at the array of equally quiet birds roosting some several dozen above their heads. Their feathers did indeed betray them to the likeness of some kind of tropical flower--as red and vibrant as they were. Some were larger than others to signify their age in contrast to others, and some weren't even red at all. The one's that weren't red sported a brilliant blue feather coat with the tips dipped in yellow. The creativity in their feathers did not quite go hand in hand with their mostly bored and disgruntled attitude. As though the very of the humans down below just put a damoer on their entire evening. As though they were somehow unhappy with humans, despite the fact that they were living in a literal furnace of steam and overcrowded plants and more steam to begin with. They still looked amazing everywhere but their disatissfied faces--if their coats had to shine brighter than their smiles, then so be it. The Tourists just tilted their heads at the odd birds and continued on when the tour guide began to direct their attention towards a sloth a little further down the path. Dani accidentally slapped herself in the face but she was more focused on the buzzing fly that she failed to hit, attracted her sweat-shimmering skin. Please refrain from using Bug spray, The Tour Guide croaked earlier, The Spray smell will scare off the animals! Besides, there won't be any bugs for you to worry about! Dani probably wouldn't enjoy the smell of chemical wearing humans if she were an animal, but she was sure she'd appreciate sweaty ones less. She flicked the pesky fly away from her blonde locks, plastered limp against her face.It was revolting to spend so much time creating a nice French braid only for the midday sun to reduce it all to look as though one's head had been dunked in water. She sighed, clearing her mind of her unhappiness and turning to look at the parrots. The Tour had long since left without her, but the unsuspecting girl paid no mind to such things. She lifted the camera from her strapless white top and aimed at the part of the flock closest to her. She may not enjoy the weather and the insects, but this would at least be the perfect time for pictures to brag about to her friends when she got back to civilization! Her toes flexed in her sandals once, twice then; her finger rested over the appropriate button when the camera's focus adjusted. The Parrot glanced down at her with a bored look--the perfect shot for-- Swipe! Belatedly, she pressed the empty space where the button would be and took several moments to realise that she was not only not taking any pictures, but she wasn't holding any camera to begin with. Her eyes whipped up to a brown blur in the tree with a gasp. "I--you--, " She stammered with a mix of surprise and outrage at the monkey. The small thing perched itself on a high tree branch and tried biting the side of the camera. "Gimme back my camera! And stop biting it!" The monkey ignored every word she said, but it stopped biting the camera take a disgusted face. Before she could even think to sigh in relief over the possibility that maybe she could get her camera back in one piece, the camera was tossed from the tall height it was held at. Too fast to grab, the mechanical device came fo a crunching halt in a puddle of mud. A puddle which splashed out over a good chunk of Dani. Dani froze instinctively, eyes shut tight as he wiped what little mud had fallen over her eyes. Now she was red for reasons other than the heat.

Kaa heard voices. Not in his head mind you, but rather the voices of humans. He opened one large yellow eye to see what had woken him. He *had* been sleeping, dreamlessly. Quickly glancing up and taking in the position of the sun, the huge python guess it was around midday. Time during which he was usually asleep. He opened his other eye now to give his full attention to the commotion coming from the jungle floor below. One of the humans seemed to be talking much louder and directing the rest of what was a group. Kaa heard this leader of the group point out the toucans that were roosting over in the tree next to his. Many of the people held up cameras and phones to take pictures and videos. Years ago, this behavior would have been completely alien to a creature like Kaa. But he had seen many humans pass by in his lifetime, many of whom were in a number much like the one passing below him. Over time he watched, listene and learned. Kaa sighed to himself as he watched the group slowly walking passed him. He wasn't exactly famished, but it had been a little while since he had a good meal. And a human would likely pose little challenge. But there was a whole group of them below, and he didn't dare make a move with the numbers so overwhelmingly not in his favor. He closed his eyes, resigned to the fact that he wasn't going to be lucky enough to catch a human alone on this day.
A loud "SLAP" sound made Kaa open his eyes again a minute or two later. "Ugh, ssseriously...they're ssstill here? They're birds, who caresss?" Kaa whispered to himself under his breath. He scanned the path below him, looking for the large group that had just been there when he last had his eyes open. It took several seconds for him to stop and see that the group was gone, and in it's place stood one solitary girl. She was dressed in light colored clothing and there didn't look suited to be worn into the jungle. Her blonde hair hair also tipped off the snake that she might not be a local. Almost instantly awake now, Kaa gave his full attention to the girl. After watching her swat away an insect or two, the woman took aim with her camera at the brightly colored birds above her. Kaa couldn't figure out why this girl was still attempting to take pictures when the rest of her group seemed to have gone on without her. Sensing an opportunity that almost never presented itself, Kaa began sliding his long body across the branch he had been sleeping on, moving over to the tree that the girl was standing below.
As his smooth scales slithered across the rough bark of the tree, Kaa never took his eyes off the the girl. Just as it looked like she was set to photograph the birds above her, a small monkey leapt down and grabbed the girl's camera, before bounding up the branches to get higher in the tree. The primate had moved so quickly that even Kaa hadn't seen him before he grabbed the camera. Under normal circumstances, that monkey might be of some interest to Kaa. But on this day, circumstances were not normal. The python shifted his eyes from the monkey to the girl, because just then she started shouting at the furry thief high up in the tree. Kaa chuckled to himself, it was a waste of her time trying to talk to the monkey. As far as he knew, he was the only animal in the jungle that could understand and speak just like the human could. Kaa moved himself from the tip of one branch onto another, crossing over to the tree that had the parrots high above, the thieving monkey and the angry girl below it. Kaa kept himself relatively low in the treeline and moved stealthily. He was trying to not alert the other animals in the tree to his presence. He debated for a moment how to best make his...introduction to the girl below. He realized that a live, talking snake might be a shock to a normal person. And he did not want to scare her away.
The perfect opportunity to present himself appeared right at that moment. The monkey had tossed the girl's camera from high up in the tree, hurling it down towards the dirt path below. It landed with an audible crash upon impact, in a small muddy puddle of water. The splash was great enough that it had gotten mud on the girl's clothes, and even her eyes it seemed. As he slithered onto a branch that was directly above the girl, he could see her with her eyes shut tight, as she tried to wipe the mud off of her face. *This* was a perfect time to make appearance.
He lowered his head down from the branch above towards Dani and cleared his throat as he began to speak. "My, my, my...from the sound of it, I don't think your camera survived the fall. And you yourself look like you've had better daysss. Might I offer you any assisstanc-ssse?"

The monkey, at the sight of the approaching serpent, squealed in alarm and audibly dashed away in the trees, but Dani didn't pay much mind to the fleenf monkey. "Good Riddance, you little ball of fur, " She murmured quietly, scooping the mud out of her eyes enough to blink and squint. Oh, she hoped there weren't leeches in this mud--she may or may not have seen such on a tv documentary with Si davi The Parrots eventually noticed the newcomer and hurriedly vacated the tree. The monkey, at the sight of the approaching serpent, squealed in alarm and audibly dashed away in the trees, but Dani didn't pay much mind to the fleeing monkey or the birds. "Good Riddance, you little ball of fur, " She murmured quietly, scooping the mud out of her eyes enough to blink and squint. Oh, she hoped there weren't leeches in this mud--she may or may not have seen such on a tv documentary with Sir David Attenborough. The young woman, as briefly distracted as she was with the process of removing the mud that had fallen over her hair and face, barely recognized the prescience of a certain Burmese python. To his comment on the situation, she scoffed while combing her hair of a mud clump.
"Ugh, assistance? Do you know any hairstylists in this stupid jungle? Cuz that would be perfect. " Dani responded sarcastically without ever glancing in his direction. She did look down to view the state of her clothing--the reason for her shrill gasp. "Why didn't I just go with the tank top?! This is just...just...Ugh!"
She would have likely spent a good couple of minutes fiddling with the mud spots on her clothing, but she took notice of her half-drowned camera in the mud before she could do that. She sighed as she retrieved it, wincing when she turned it over several times to glimpse different parts of it. Mud on the lense, mud in the mechanical thingy there, and that other thingy...another good Christmas gift gone to waste. She huffed to the voice she heard earlier. "Well, maybe someone will get me a GoPro next Christmas. Mud wouldn't be a problem for that. Plus I could just strap it to my head and...and…"
As she was talking, she turned to the voice and found a rather surprising sight awaiting her. A massive snake to be precise, with an all too wide grin, eyes the size of the moon a body that trailed into the trees where she couldn't even make out his length. Dani's eyes widened for several tense moments, her cheeks still a rosy sort of red. But after looking behind the snake for a possible ventriloquist or some prankster with way too much time/money on his hands, she groaned and looked down at her pitiful camera again. "Oh, this is just peachy, " She spat venomously, letting the camera fall from her grip to the ground again. "Mud all over me and a snake hallucination from a camera hitting me on the head. I bet a lightning strike is next?"
Though she doubted her own words, she couldn't resist briefly looking up at the sky for clouds. d

Despite the great serpent's best efforts to move silently , when he slithered his large body into the adjacent tree, it did not go unnoticed by the animals around him. The parrots and the monkey who had stolen the camera all made a rapid exit. Evolution had taught them to sense when a predator was nearby. Unfortunately for the young woman scraping mud out her eyes and cursing the monkey, she hadn't adapted the same survival instincts. As he wrapped his body around one of the branches above to stabilize himself, he brought his head down close to this now lone traveler.
He spoke for the first time, commenting on her camera and offering help. He wasn't sure exactly what reaction he anticipate from her, but he expected it to be somewhat extreme. What he did not expect was for her to not even glance at him as she answered him in an absentminded way, as she was more concerned with cleaning the mud off of herself. Kaa shook his head slightly in disbelief. The one thing that had never happened to him before was that he was ignored in any way. Typically he had a way of commanding the full attention of whoever was near him, either by his presence or by using certain abilities that he had. She fretted about the state of her hair and clothes and then turned her attention to her mud-covered camera, still not looking at him. Kaa couldn't decide if he was more annoyed or amused that he hadn't been noticed yet.
Finally after lamenting about the damage done to her camera, the girl looked up at him. Kaa opened his mouth into a wide smile, pleased things were hopefully going back to the wat he envisioned. The girl's eyes widened as she took in the unbelievable sight in front of her; a gigantic, speaking python who was practically face-to-face with her, smiling at her in a very self-satisfied sort of way. For a few moments she looked flushed and fearful. Then before he could speak again, the sense of fear seemed to be gone. The girl shouted about her camera, the mud and hallucinating the sight in front of her. Still feeling slightly out of his element, that being not in absolute control, Kaa cleared his throat and began to address the angry girl in front of him.
"Well...little one, you are indeed covered in mud. Also it unlikely that there will be lightning today...asss you can see, the sun is ssshining. But I asssssure you that I am no hallucination. And finally...I am no mere sssnake...all those who know of me, simply call me Kaa. And it isss a delight to make your aquintanc-ssse. What might your name be? Oh...and before I forget, I think it would be beneficial for you to just take a deep breath and calm yourssself a bit." As Kaa said that part about trying to calm the girl down, he attempted to lock eyes with her. As he did so, he sent one hypnotic ring of color pulsing through his eyes.

It was astonishing how fast she calmed herself down after the snake hallucination spoke again, introducing himself with an odd name like Kaa. It was almost right after a brief moment eye contact that she suddenly felt a tad less angry with how her misfortune had led her to where she was. She sighed through her nose and pouted in his direction, but made no commentary at first. Half of her still believed he was a hallucination, cooked up from some strange gases being vented from the trees around them. She stepped slightly to the right to get out of the mud in case it had hallucinogenic properties, but otherwise didn't make any effort to leave the snake. "My, what a lucky day to have."
She crossed her arms as she stared at him, an eyebrow raised and another lowered. "If you're real, how are you soeaking fluent English right now? Pythons don't talk and they certainly don't have eyes that big. " She pointed out with a frown. They were certainly large all on their own, even without the abnormally long body length. "Are you like...a science experiment?"

Kaa had experienced minimal interaction with humans before, so he was a bit unprepared for the open hostility he was facing whilst attempting to talk to the girl who stood before him. Thisss may be a bit more of a challenge than I bargained for, Kaa thought to himself. As he slithered out of the tree and began to speak to his visitor, he attempted to use a small bit of his hypnotic ability to try to calm the girl down. It was only a quick moment of eye contact, but luckily for the snake, it seemed to have the effect he wanted. The girl stopped shouting and bemoaning the fate of her camera, her anger seeming to subside a little. This came as a great relief to Kaa. For while he had a lot of work to do if he wanted to get his young visitor into a more compliant state, the power his eyes held did seem to work. While the girl wasn't currently shouting in his general direction, she was still glaring at him as though she couldn't believe he existed. She spoke again, talking sarcastically about her bad luck.
"Well little one...it might not be as unlucky asss you might think. There are many things in thisss jungle far less friendly than I am. And also, it'sss not every day that a human is lucky enough to encounter me. As I ssstated before, I am no mere snake. As for why I can speak, who'sss to say? I have the ability to for as long as I can remember. I have learned many different words from listening as other humansss walked through my jungle. It took yearsss, but eventually I learned." Kaa flicked his tongue out a couple times, and tried to blink his large eyes to give off an innocent impression. "It's funny you should mention my eyesss, I'm not certain why they seem to be so much larger than other snakesss. But it is sort of lucky in a way, they're so much easssier to see." As Kaa said this, he once again tried to lock eyes with the woman in front of him and let a couple more hypnotic rings of color pass through them. As much as his visitor had seemed to calm down, a little more couldn't hurt. Kaa wasn't sure exactly what his intentions were with the human in front of him, but he thought that things would be best if between the two of them, that eventually was the one making ALL the decisions.
"I'm not sure exactly what a 'science experiment' isss, so I'll just venture a guess and sssay...no? I am just your somewhat extraordinary, great python and king of thisss part of the jungle. Or as I ssstated before, just Kaa. That's what my friendsss would call me, if I...had any that is. For some reason, I have some degree of difficulty making them." Kaa gave his best efforts to mimic a shrug, contorting the coils in his neck to move as if he had shoulders.
"But I jussst had a thought. If you wanted...you and I could become friendsss." You certainly look asss though you could use some assistance at the moment." Kaa once again tried to subtly catch the gaze of the girl in front of him, and let several spirals of color pass through his eyes for a full second. "Sssssooo...I have introduced myself...what might your name be?"
