The sea krait seemed to pause and think about it for a second, then it lunged at Rob, full force. Rob found himself swimming in the gelatin substance for a minute, then was dumped back on his canoe.
"The others will not be so forgiving as I am," the monster hissed, "be on guard. You may pass." The current began moving forward again, and the sea krait dissolves into the river again.

Rob was not moving while the snake seemed to think. However, his eyes widened when he stared into that huge maw, shooting towards him. He closed his eyea, already thinking that was it. But instead of pain or agony, he felt himself getting thrown back on his canoe.
Rob needed a few seconds to recollect himself. When he looked into the snake's eyes again, he could hardly believe his luck. He did not say anything to the serpent's final warning. There was no need. He was oretty sure it dis not care too much what heppened to him from here on. But he very much appreciated to be alive for now. So he bowed his head respectfully as the mythical creature disappeared before heading on towards the temple.

The river drifted on, and on, until it came to a tunnel-like cave down the stream. Torches lined the dimly lit wall, and a pillar with a HUGE rock python.

Rob gulped as he saw the river leading through a tunnel. He could already see some torches from outside. No way that this could be some normal, nature formed tunnel. There was probably something awaiting him here again. Maybe another guardian to test him.
He took a deep breath and paddled on carefully, not meaning to make any loud noises. He was right, this place was built by humans. There were several large pillars at the side of the river. And he did not see it because of the diffuse light, but an enormous python had it´s body wrapped around one of those pillars. When he was finally aware of that, he could practically reach out with his hand to touch the snake. He didn´t do that of course. In fact, he froze in place right away and did not dare to make another move, even though he was well aware that this snake had spottet him long ago. Maybe even before he hand entered the tunnel.

Just then, there was a rumble, and the sand and stone that had sunk to the bottom rose up to the surface, taking the form of a massive rock python. "Who dares to set foot into the relm of the queen of snakes?"

Oh lord, it was another one. Rob gulped and tried to remain calm and answer respectfully to the snake. He knew what to deal with now. "My name is Rob. I humbly beg forgiveness for intruding. I seek to pass your domain and visit the godess of yours." He managed to speak in a strong, clear but also polite voice. He didn't fear this python guardians grip and coils. But it's anger and what they could do to him if he got the snake mad.
