It was another day on Pōmaikaʻi, previously code-named Greystoke Island. Today was hotter than usual. Especially for one denizen as she slumbered in the shade of her favourite tree. One that she called home.
A pair of violet reptilian eyes opened. They belonged to Ruby, an python of enormous proportions. Her body was over 22 feet in length, with mid pink scales, red circular spots and an underbelly that was coloured hot pink. She was known throughout the island’s jungle for her brilliant and crafty mind, as well as her playful, flirtatious personality and Southern belle voice (An uncommon trait for such a huge serpent).
She had just woken up from a dream of the last encounter she had with a young man named Kaitan. She was a little too forward with the jungle lad when they met previously, but this time, however, her mood had changed and she was eager to show him why.

The young man, Kaitan, sat in one of the trees. He was not a native of Pomaika’i, just some hoser who’d washed ashore at age 16, and had now become a Tarzan-like jungle gymnast/runner. In a couple of years, his name would become famous all around the world thanks to his adventures with his lover Huli, but she wasn’t here just yet. It was just him, Kaitan. He was kind of lonely, but he did have the island animals and Teo tribe for company.
His permanently bare foot dangled from the branch. As mentioned, being a Real-life Tarzan, he didn’t wear anything except a buckskin loincloth. His skin was a bit tanned, glistening with sweat. He was lean, athletic. Stringy, messy brown hair went down to his shoulders, framing a slender face and brown eyes.

Ruby yawned, her cavernous mouth had already sated her stomach with her favourite delicacy - monkeys. Especially those who disturbed her moments of respite. She caught wind of another scent on the air. Instinctively, she flicked out her forked tongue and tasted the air. Raising her head about the ball of coils she was in, the majority wrapped around the branch, she kept trying to find it. The scent was familiar. One that she recognised instantly.
"Could it really be?" She hissed quietly to herself, peering through the thick vegetation of the branch below her.
To her surprise, she saw Kaitan sitting in another tree. Right next door to her own! Her violet eyes widened in sheer delight.

Kai didn’t notice her at first, until a familiar scent hit his nostrils. He perked up, looked around and felt nervous. He knew that scent and he didn’t like it. The owner of that scent had come on to him in a way that he didn’t like some time ago, and now his defensive instincts had kicked back in.

"He’s good....." Ruby hissed intensely. She saw how Kaitan reacted to her perceived presence as he defensive instincts kicked in. She felt nothing but guilt and shame for coming on to the jungle lad, and was now secretly eager to explain how she had changed. The pink python needed to be crafty, but less flirty.

To Ruby’s advantage, he didn’t know where exactly the scent was coming from, just that he could smell it. His senses, sharpened by years in the wild, hadn’t been trained for that yet. That would eventually happen, but at this moment in time, he leaped off the branch he was on, but in her direction.

Ruby saw that Kaitan was moving in her direction. She readied her tail: not to lash out and quickly grab him like she did before, but to be more methodical and take him by friendly surprise. Deep down, she had wanted to purge the guilt and shame by helping the jungle lad relax with her hypnotic abilities.
"I really hope he don’t hate me....." She mused quietly, secretly feeling briefly sad. Spurring herself into action, she lowered her tail down from the branch stealthily.

He instinctively reached for her tail, assuming that it was another vine. He only realized what it was too late when he felt her scales. “Oh, CRAP!” He hissed, right as her tail coiled around his arm.

At first, Ruby thought her tail had snagged on something. Like prey passing by, for example. But once it instinctively coiled around Kaitan’s arm, her initial reaction was one of genuine shock and alarm, even jumping out of her own scaly skin as it tightened around him.
"Hey! Who was...." She hissed, lifting Kaitan off the branch and into the tree that she was resting in.

He struggled to free himself, but stopped when he realized he was dangling above the forest floor. If he freed himself right now, he would plummet to his death. He stopped and let whomever it was lift him up, and was dismayed to see Ruby grinning at him.

Once Ruby brought Kaitan up to the branch of her tree, she did grin, albeit briefly. It was a grin of surprise. "Kaitan?! What are you doin’ out here?" She asked, genuinely surprised as she kept the jungle lad dangling.

“Getting away from you!” he spat, ignoring her chuckles.

"Come on, Kaitan. Don’t be like that. How was I supposed to know you’d walk right into my coils?" Ruby asked, still with genuine surprise in her voice. She observed the jungle lad’s body language, seeing that he was slightly angry, so gently squeezed his arm to reassure him that she wasn’t going to do what she did before.

His struggling subsided as he got tired. His arm felt like it was about to pop out at any moment from hanging around like that. Finally, he went limp and strained his face.

Ruby panicked, her instincts compelling her to lower Kaitan onto the branch once she saw him go limp. "I haven’t popped your arm out of place, have I?" She asked, unwinding her tail back from around the jungle lad’s arm.
