A whirring of fan blades was the only sound to fill a large office. Well, that and the clacking of a keyboard with a man in front of a computer screen. A lanky frame slouched in the chair, rubbing his brown eyes and temple after relieving his nose of a pair of glasses. The screen in front of him was littered with applicants and housing paperwork, bills, etc. He ruffled his ear length hair and refitted his glasses, tugging at the collar of his casual suit, and moving a placard to be parallel with the edge of his desk. The placard read Doctor Frederick Klein.
He breathed deeply, reaching for an intercom phone on the opposite end of the desk and hearing the tone bleep sharply. "Tanya, is the next one ready? I've caught up with most things for the day." "Yes, they are on their way as we speak. Are you sure you're up for this? You really haven't had a decent break for weeks." "There'll be time once these last few applicants are in. These 'monsters' we're housing need us. The population needs to see the good they can do. The good I can see them do. And from what I've heard from this one, we're going to need all the help we can get to help each other." "Alright. I'm still worried about you."
With that Fred swiveled to his feet, passing between two leather couches to a table with a coffee maker and assortment of goodies. He started the machine before taking a muffin on a saucer back to his desk.

Everything seemed so new to him. The cars, the skyscrapers that rose up higher than he could have ever imagined, and most of all had been the fact that he was moving alongside these 'monsters,' as they were called. Amasis could barely imagine that it had been such a long time since he woke up. He missed the two World Wars, his allies falling, and most of all his kingdom, his people were lost to the sands of time.
Brushing a hand through his snow-white hair, he was still struggling to get a grasp on everything. This new language called English, in particular, threw him in for a loop. Even though he could have a basic conversation, it very much caused him an extensive amount of grief. Shutting his eyes, he leaned over on accident, bumping into the person next to him.
"Hey!"
Amasis leapt up at the sound of the voice piping up, and he made a quick, "T-Teshe... I-I mean, sorry." He lowered his head quickly, but failed to see the person, who he had bumped into, give off a smile.
"Well howdy! I guess I didn't see another snake feller right next to me this whole time!"
"Snake... What?" Amasis looked up, finally catching a good look at the person who was speaking to him. He saw how she had blonde hair, with a distinctive swoop in the front that complimented her surprisingly golden eyes. Her slightly tanned skin showed that she had been outdoors rather frequently, and his eyes trailed to her outfit, which seemed very much high fashion, or at the very least she knew how to dress herself up well enough to leave a good impression.
"O-Oh, you mean lamius."
"A what? Boy, you really are an odd one!" The woman ruffled Amasis's hair, letting off a bit of a laugh. "What's yer name?"
"A-Amasis."
As the two conversed amongst themselves, with the lamia introducing herself as Cecily, another boy, who appeared seventeen, walked on the far side of the group, away from them but huddled between two unfamiliar people. His silver-gray hair looked like a mess, and he had a distinctive tattoo on his forehead in the shape of a V. Tail as stiff as a board as he walked, his wolf ears flattened, he kept to himself. He was just here to see the doctor about something... Shelter? That sounded right, but it was something he needed urgently, having recently been moved to this city after circumstances forced him to do so.
For now, the three kept moving, two in constant conversation, and the other silent.

They eventually found themselves at a gargantuan apartment complex. 'Monsters' were bustling in and out of windows, doors, and the roof. Through the entrance the three met with Tanya who guided them to room 103 to meet up with the contact to bring each of them into the current times. The trio reached a set of double doors with a placard reading Rehabilitation Center: Room 103. Next to the placard was a list of names and times for appointments. Amasis was the first on the list. As he approached, the doors opened, and Frederick was seated at one of the couches. "Ah, just the one I wanted to see. And you are already making some acquaintances. Splendid. Come in come in. I might as well take all three of you at once, seeing as you are one right after the other on my list. Don't be shy. Your roommates are anxious to meet you."

Amasis's eyes lit up with a sort of anxiety once the doors had opened, breaking up the constant talking that Cecily had pouring out of her. The other monsters that they were walking with sat down at the benches outside of the rehabilitation room. He looked over at Cecily, who beamed and leaned into the door.
"Well hi! You're that doctor everyone has been talking about, huh?" she exclaimed, delighted to see that he had looked nothing like what she anticipated. Moving in front of Amasis, who had been somewhat lost at the mention of everyone coming in at once, she proceeded to seat herself down on the nearby, open couch. At first she had laid over it, but realized that there had to be room for the others, so she corrected herself and sat upright, her tail coiling onto itself to the side. "You look so handsome, darlin!"
Joining her, Amasis sat down on the opposite end, tugging at his shirt collar as a meek look crossed him. His eyes flicked towards the doctor, then finally to the wolf boy who had walked in. He noticed how unusual the boy appeared, but said nothing as they plopped themselves down in between himself and Cecily. Brushing his hands through his hair, Amasis shut his eyes, attempting to calm himself down.
The wolf boy flicked his ears, leaning back in the seat as he was taken aback by the surprising softness of the couch. He didn't say a word, yet he fiddled with a necklace that he pulled out from underneath his shirt, wrapping the frayed threads around his finger, his eyes steadily lowering to gaze upon it.
A moment of silence befell them as they became comfortable, and Cecily leaned forward, drumming her hand on the couch's chair. Her eyes lit up and had a youthful energy to them. "Don't mind those two, they're rather quiet. Though Ama here is quite the fascinating person!"

“Well he certainly is. He is taking his situation very well. Though all of this must be overwhelming, too. Which is why we both have a great opportunity to learn from one another. And I’ll be happy to report that we have someone here who has learned your dialect at a remarkable pace. We’ll get into those details in a while, but I’d like to inquire if there is anything you have to ask of me, Amasis. While I’m not the best at knowing history and culture, I’d still like to try the best I can. If you need anything to remind you of your home I can make it happen.” Fred glanced at his clipboard. “I do find it interesting the three of you came together so quickly. Every other applicant at least took a month to open up to me let alone the rest of the inhabitants. That is a good change. I will tell you that your room and board, food expenses, clothes, all the essentiywill be provided for in your stay. The only catch is that we must find a way to mingle you with the rest of society through the workforce. Al money that you receive is yours to do what you will. But before we can do that I can’t ask everything of you until you at least have some time to settle in. We give two weeks time to settle in, get acquainted, and hopefully comfortable enough for the next steps. And as I stated to Amasis I am willing to answer any questions at any time. Your registration has already been taken care of and once we are done here the three of you will meet your new roommates for your stay.”

Staring blankly at Frederick, a good chunk of his words going over his head, Amasis twiddled his thumbs, trying to think of anything that could help him out at that moment. As his eyes gazed downward, he shifted his tail lightly back and forth, attempting to get comfortable. "Not... at the moment," he stated calmly, bringing his eyes back up to look at Frederick curiously. "But... Any time?"
"Any time, darlin!" Cecily chimed in, leaning forward as her eyes lit up. "But the workforce huh? I suppose I technically was in one for a while," she bluntly proclaimed, adjusting her outfit along the collar, sounding more than pleased at herself for already having a sort of head start. "So, when do we start?"
After a moment, the wolf boy finally spoke up, perking up his ears as he twirled the necklace around his finger. "So who are we living with?" he inquired, finally looking up at Frederick with his dark-brown eyes. "They're nice people, right?"

"Well, it looks like you're eager to meet your roommates. The work portion begins in a couple weeks, but for now I can escort you to your rooms. Though as a matter of organization, I'll take each of you one at a time. Amasis, if you would follow me. We can discuss more in private at a later date. "I hope having them with you wasn't a burden," he said as he led Amasis through the labyrinth. Many of the residents waved, smiled, and even hugged the man as they passed, each with inquisitive looks to the newcomer's way. "I'll be the first to say I can't sympathize with you, seeing as I haven't found myself the way you are today. But I think this individual can help us both." He stopped at a surprisingly wide set of doors, a little taller than his office's, and upon each was a knocking ring as he took one and gave two sharp knocks. Amasis could hear a scuffling inside, and one of the knobs began to turn. "Just..engh... j-just a minute!" came a light call from inside. "Oh, I really need a better knob." The voice was sweet and kind, but with a hint of frustration as she was clearly flustered about something. "You need me to open the door?" Fred asked, already reaching for it. "No. No no, I can get it. You would think all of my time here I'd be able to open these doors." Grunts and strains were audible now, but finally the door popped to a crack, then gently nudged forward as a large claw gripped the door, followed by a slender, thin leg. The flutter of air soon followed, as great fiery red wings sprang into the hall, almost haphazard as the girl was trying to steady herself on one bird leg. Shorts the length of her thighs gripped her curves, a rather buxom beauty despite most of her race to be frail and light. A light brown midriff soon emerged from the great vessels, her bosom covered in a tube top with the back bare save for a net pattern in the back. Luscious strands of hair fell like a great waterfall, framing her shoulders down to her waist. "Ah, finally, please, do come in... she trailed as her eyes met Amasis's, the leg that held the door reaching up and moving a clump of hair in her face behind her ear, showing her light brown iris's in a light sparkle, a light smile with cheeks flustered catching his gaze before she shook her head, giving one flap of her wings to carry her back into the room. Fred gestured inside as he had taken the door from the girl. "Go on. I'm right behind you." "I hope I made adequate space, sir," she said, for as Amasis would enter, piles of books were strewn about the place, several poles made to appear like tree limbs jutting out at various intervals upon the walls. She was perched upon one about five feet from the ground, her knees in her chest with wings extended, her eyes never leaving him. Her eyes were calm, not hungry or malicious. She tipped her head to him as his gaze met hers, folding one of her winged arms in front of her chest, and for the first time since he had woken in this new place, he heard her say, "Your Majesty," in his native tongue. Granted it was the slightest bit with the American accent she possessed and was a little dry, but the girl had only just started to learn his dialect.
Meanwhile, about a couple of minutes after the two had left, a hissing of machinery could be heard as a grid of blue lights littered the floor next to Frederick's desk. Up from the floor came a digital copy of the therapist as it fixed his tie and collar. "Ah, came the digital voice. "Now that he is out of the room, we can proceed. I didn't want to scare the poor chap. Now, don't be alarmed, this is just a testing of a new hologram device to allow me, Frederick, to do some duties that could otherwise not be done. Now, without further ado," he added, as he stepped aside and a second took it's place, "Let's take you to your rooms, shall we?"
Cecily found herself in a warmer part of the complex, and before they even reached the door that Fred stopped at, a scurry was already at the door, followed by a barrage of barks and scratches at the door. "Unfortunately in this getup, I can't do anything physical, so you'll have to take it from here. I'll still be here for questions if you need me, or I can part with you now. Your choice."
"Now that we're alone, rest assured I took great care to match you with the best person," the last hologram said to the remaining guest. "Though the one I hooked you up with might need some time to.... adjust. She is a very defensive individual. I figured I'd warn you beforehand, but you look the capable sort."
