Jake smiled. "Well, that's good, at least. So how have things been going for you. It's been a couple of days since we've had this much time to talk, with my family keeping me busy."

"Things have been alright. Zeke is a good guardian. He's helped me alot. Not just in my study of human life, he also found interests for me. You remember how bleak and, mundane life was for us before. Play was something we had only when we are very young, after we grow just a little we must join in the cause for our survival. Zeke helped me, after I told him of my one uh 'hobby' I had, he got me those beads." She points to his hand that was wearing the bracelet she made. There are other things, like music, and he gave me flowers to care for." As she talked she gave a little grin.

"Ypu said like a kid in the candy store." Jake quipped with a laugh. "Yeah, I remember what life was like down there. I know that I acted kind of like a baby when Pheme told me I'd never be allowed to leave, but I think now you see why. I think Pheme understands more now than ever, too, getting to have freedom herself.

"I think she is more concentrated on the rebuilding of the homeland. I don't know if she has spent time to learn. Not that I can say much, I haven't spoken with her in some time. I don't know how her, or any one else is doing."

"Yeah, we need to fix that." Jake commented. "There has to be some way we can call her or something sometime soon. I know you miss all of them. I wouldn't mind knowing how they're doing myself. Not all of them were exactly warm toward me back then, but I feel like that'd be different now, with the curse being broken. And me being the one who did it probably helps."

Mink did a small swallow. Not liking to think about just How Jake was able to set them free. "It's not that I'm homesick," Mink said as she pushed back the feeling. "I did grow up along side them but remember I didn't really have friends back there. Dante was one I would speak with, but I kinda kept to myself ever since my parents went away."

Jake simply nodded glumly, not really having any way to respond that. This conversation how somehow found its way to be a little depressing.
"So after this trip Zeke's planning," Jake changed the subject, "we oughta do something really nice when we get back home. Like maybe you'd like the zoo? Or the beach?"

"I'd like that," as she said that, Mink spot the waiter coming to them with plates in his hands.

The waiter stopped at their table and placed the two steaming plates down. The one with the pasta in front of Mink and the steak in front of Jake. "I'll be right back with your milkshakes." he said before walking to the kitchen again.
"Well," Jake said before looking down at his plate. "Let's-"
He stopped when he actually looked down. Accompanying his food on the plate was a steak knife. A big one. And super sharp. Just like the one that...
Without even realizing it, Jake became a little short of breath and his hands twitched ever so slightly.

Mink looks down at her plate and breathes in the warm steam. The food smelled great. Grabbing her fork she tries some, but she forgot it would still be hot and anciently hurt her tongue. "Ouch," she said holding a hand to her mouth.

The little Yelp from Mink was enough to catch Jake's attention, breaking him out of his small panic attack. Looking up at her, he suppressed a sigh, glad that she didn't seem to notice what he had just went through. This had not been the first time that had happened to him since he had returned home. The thought had crossed his mind to tell Mink about his panic attacks. And his nightmares. But similarly to his reasoning for holding off on pursuing his feeling toward Mink, he did not want to overwhelm her. She was still learning how to be human. The last thing she needed was to worry about him.
"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I'm alright, just forgot that it would be hot." Mink takes a swallow of her water to help the sting. "It's nothing." She grabs her fork which landed on the plate and picks up some noodles again. This time she gives it a few light blows before taking a bite. It was cool this time. It tasted so good with the cheese sauce. "I've never had cheese since I became human. I know I said it before many times, but I just can't thank you enough for, everything." Mink smiled at him that reached to her eyes.

Seeing that huge, genuine smile on Mink's face caused a warm, fuzzy feeling to swell in Jake's chest. And that feeling helped put him at ease.
Jake was glad that he was the cause of Mink becoming human. Even if breaking the curse involved a knife going straight into his heart. He could still vividly remember how painful it was. And being held in Mink's arms, looking up at her sad, panicked face as everything went dark. Yet a few minutes later, after the curse was broken, he came back to life.
"Don't mention it." Jake said with a smile much smaller than Mink's.

"I don't think that's possible," she as a joke. To mean she will likely thank again him in the near future. After that the waiter comes with the milkshakes and Mink takes a sip. It was cold and very yummy. She then goes back to her pasta which had already cooled a little.

Jake took a sip of his own shake before looking back down at his own plate. The sight of the steak knife once again made him feel uneasy and a little sick, but he managed to keep his fears under control for the most part. He picked it up and used it to slice off a smaller piece from the steak, which he poked with a fork and brought to his mouth to eat.
"So, this place is pretty good, right?" he asked after swallowing the piece of steak.
