"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!"
Carrying the human girl on his shoulders, feeling the water drip from her head and onto his shoulders, the Fierce One carried on as best as he could. The blood dribbled from the bite on his arm, a rare wound from a Pokemon that managed to get a good hit on him. Even as he hoisted the girl's legs around his chest, making sure that she was wrapped on as tightly as possible, he ran as fast as he could.
"You're fine! There wasn't much you could do. Stay quiet, and keep holding on!"
Heart racing. Blurred emeralds as he sprinted. Sun beating down on them. Water splashing with each step. All of this swirled together to create a cornucopia of different senses that buoyed him. He, a Lucario, did his best to push away any sort of pain that he had felt at that instant. His main priority was to get Kairi back to her mistress, his closest friend: the Graceful One. Even as he leapt over several larger rocks that blocked his way, his stomach rising into his chest as he descended, before lunging back up into the air, he knew where his priorities laid.
Once he landed back down, hitting the ground as he burst into a swift sprint, the Fierce One knew where to go. This is what sixteen years of living on this island had done to him. Every little nook and cranny was embedded into his mind. Every step was another memory of a time long past. Every tree that they passed reminded him of times that were long gone. Now, it was a different reality, a different time. One that he couldn't have fathomed even several months ago.
When he slowed his pace, seeing that cavern entrance, the Fierce One could feel his lungs burning for fresh air. Blood dripped from his paw, and he knelt down to let Kairi off of his back.
"M-Master! Are you alright?" Kairi inquired, kneeling down to her teacher, tears forming in her eyes. "I-I'm so sorry! I didn't see that Araquanaid by that lake!"
Taking in a deep breath, he stared back up at Kairi, getting back up onto his feet. His paw went to rub the wound, feeling the flow of blood slowing. It wouldn't be too long before the streaming would stop. "There's no need to worry. I'm just glad that you are fine." Taking his paw, he patted Kairi's shoulder, trying his best to beam towards her. "Now then, I'm going to go for a walk. Some Sitrus berries will do me some good in patching this up! It'll take more than an Araquanaid to wear me down!"
"A-Are you sure?"
Truth be told, with how his arm tingled, he wasn't entirely sure if that was all he needed. The Fierce One observed Kairi's expression, how her eyes watered up with tears. That feeling of guilt was one he was all too familiar with. When she tried to reach out to him, he flinched, stepping back.
"Go to your mistress. Tell her that I'll be back... Please."
Without even acknowledging whether she agreed or not, he took off in the opposite direction.
Seconds melted into minutes. Minutes into what felt like an hour. The Fierce One wandered the island, constantly having to rub his eyes. His arm had began to melt from a scratching into a numbness. Clenching his paw, he couldn't even feel it as he rested against a tree. Gritting his teeth, he had to try to recall the last time that something like this had happened. Was it when they came to the island those several months ago? When that Scolipede managed to get a good hit off on him?
Rubbing his eyes, the Fierce One cursed to himself. Maybe he shouldn't have worried Kairi so much with ignoring the wound. That Araquanaid had done a perfect X-Scissor that even he could barely take without significant damage. Then that bite... Rubbing the wound again, he could feel the blood continuing to trickle. How strange... It should have ceased a good while ago.
"Gotta get those berries..." The Fierce One moved, leaving behind a bloody imprint of his arm on the tree. He didn't recognize the area, but it was one that, in years past, he used to frequent.
