Night had fallen deep in the South American jungle. It was a peaceful night, as the night sky was clear with stars shining bright, though the large trees could often hide those stars, even when high up a single tree, where one would only see branches and leaves as far as the eye could see above, which would not only hide the beautiful night sky, but also hide the potential dangers that lurk above, as is what would happen on this night and this tree.
Up on a single large branch at the very top of a large tree was a female Ocelot named Beata setting herself up on the far side of the branch while on the other side of the branch where the stem connected to the trunk of the tree was a creature rarely seen this deep in the jungle: a human, a female 10-year old cub to be exact named Maia. Maia is of average size, weight and height for a 10-year old girl, of Latin American race with long flowing black hair that went to her waist. While it would be a mystery how any human, much less a child could live this deep in the jungle the answer is that Beata found her as a baby all alone in this jungle and knowing that she needed a parents care she gave her to a troop of Spider-monkeys - the closest species in this part of the jungle to hold any resemblance and similarities to humans - to take care of her while Beata would still often visit and take Maia on trips for sight-seeing, though she was beginning to get heavy for the ocelot and now had to walk on her own on their travels most of the time.
But this wasn't like any if their travels before, for this one was about keeping Maia safe. Because this part of the jungle just got a visitor: Sabina the Jaguar, a ruthless and sadistic Jaguar who thought of herself as queen of the jungle and was not afraid to even kill any one just to prove it, but it wasn't just that that made her a danger to Maia, it was the fact that she held a deep hatred of humankind, and if she knew there was one in this jungle, she would not hesitate to kill her just out of spite, and it would only take one swipe of her claws. That's why knowing that Maia had to be safe and protected from Sabina, Beata had decided that she and Maia would have a far longer travel outside of this part of the jungle to keep away from Sabina until she has left this part of the jungle.
Beata and Maia were now on the tree for a good night's sleep and up in the tree to be kept safe from any dangers on the jungle floor for the night.
"Now, get some sleep Maia." Said Beata in a both stern and soft tone while checking the jungle floor for any signs if anyone didn't follow them. "We've got a long journey tomorrow as we don't know how long we'll have to be away from the troop."
"We won't have to be gone forever will we Beata?" Maia said with some concern in her voice while she started fiddling with a tiny branch on the trunk of the tree.
Beata then looked at Maia with concern and gave a reassuring smile and said in a motherly tone. "Of course not Maia, just until we hear word of Sabina no longer being in this part of the jungle."
